I can no longer copy a tag directly from the grid tag column and paste it in the same column for a different item.

Has this functionality been removed?

I miss having this because it's a lot quicker than returning to the tag pane to retrieve a tag for assignment.

Hi Wayne,

It works fine here (Welcome to IQ database, v114j portable), even for multiple tags.
Can you detail the steps you take ? Or provide a screencast ?

1) select the tags cell in the grid
2a) ctrl-c or (2b) right-click>copy; or (2c) Edit>copy
3) select tags cell for different item
4) ctrl-v (or right-click>paste; or Edit>paste)

Nothing happens

Tried another file: methods 2b and 2c DO work but method 2a still doesn't.  Not a keyboard issue because ctrl-c works fine on all other items.

Something weird going on with my system.   I'll try going to 114j.

Upgraded to 114j.  Did not help.

Pretty frustrating as it easily doubles or triples the time it takes to assign tags.  I create a new item that needs the same three tags as the one before it, and I have to look up each tag again.

Copy/paste works everywhere except tags.

If anyone has any ideas on something else to try, I'd appreciate it.

Update: tried installing portable version of j.  Doesn't work either.

Hi Wayne,

  1. Does it work when you try it with the Welcome to IQ database ?
  2. When you copy / paste items (XML mode), are tags copied as it should ?
If you download InsideClipboard, you can see the clipboard format used for tags. It is a great tool

Tried suggestions and am none the wiser.

Copy/paste tags:

1) Welcome file: did not work
2) Turned off phrase expander software
3) Welcome file DID work
4) So Phrasexpander was the problem?
5) No, because the Welcome file continued working after I re-launched Phraseexpander.
6) My primary file where I need the tags refuses to work no matter what I try (Phraseexpander running or not)

Inside Clipboard for a copy  of  tag "WindPower" in primary file=
WindPower<a D#239><img>10:8</img></a>

Paste of above did NOT work.

Inside Clipboard for a copy  of  tag "Drama" in another file =
Drama<a D#5><img>10:8</img></a>

Paste of above DID work.

I don't see any difference between the one that worked and the one that didn't.

In summary, the other InfoQube files are now working (don't know why) but the primary file where I need tag copying continues to not work.

On unrelated note, I reverted to 114h installed version because  k was locking up every time I tried to close a file.

Update: just tried copying a tag and pasting it into the item column.  It works: the tag text is pasted.  So the tag IS getting copied.  It just won't let me paste it in the Tags column for some reason.

Hi Wayne,

In InsideClipboard, after copying a tag, do you have a format for Tags ?
The format name is IQTag and would show the Tag ID(s)

As for v114k lockup on file close, yup, I've seen it and will try to resolve it before v114L is released

Let me resurrect this thread as the problem is fairly serious for my workflow

1) Yes, the copied tag does show up in InsideClipboard
2) Confirmed that tag is being correctly copied as I can paste it into a regular item cell.
3) Tag column still will not let me paste tags.
4) Some tag columns in other grids DO let me paste tags, at least off and on.

If I can get tag paste to work, then I should be able to paste tags from my clipboard software, right?  If so, that would be what I was looking for in the first place: could pin a set of currently-used tags for easy access.

Hi Wayne,

Please provide a screencast,or exact steps to reproduce the issue or provide a sample IQBase where the issue is present, as I don't quite get what the problem is.

Copy / paste tags works here flawlessly

To create a group of tags that you can paste easily, you could have a list of items in a "template" grid (in a small vertical pane for example) and copy / paste tags from such a "template" item to your items

Pierre,

I gave the exact steps at the beginning of the thread:  Select tag cell>copy(ctrl-c)>select blank tag cell>paste(ctrl-v).  Sometimes works, often doesn't.

Nothing you can do if you can't reproduce it.

Thanks, for the final suggestion.  That gives me the "pinned" tags I was looking for.  Still requires copy/paste to be working, though.

That can really save steps if you have a set of tags you're repeatedly assigning in various combinations.  You could create an item for each combination and assign tags in one step without repeatedly having to search for and assign individual tags.

What do you mean by clipboard software ? Perhaps it is linked to this issue...
Do you use a clipboard manager ?

Yes, I have a clipboard manager.  Makes no difference when I kill the program.
