this problem pretty much only occurs when your calender view is set to show the time scale for the day. You have three options to rectify this:
1. In Options|Calender, switch to a smaller font size and / or to a condensed font, particularly one that has little vertical spacing.
2. If (1) does not make the view readable, in Options|Calendar, experiment with setting the beginning of the time scale to a later time and / or its end to an earlier time, e.g. from 8 am to 6 pm rather than from 7 am to 8 pm.
3. If (2) isn't really an option or does not make the view that much more readable, you'll probably have to do without the time scale entirely: Click on the toolbar button to hide the time scale for the day view (> result like in your month view).
