I've been working in IQ for several straight hours and it just occurred to me that probably 90% of my looking over to the Properties pane (which is often not visible) is to see what grids an item is in. You have a fantastic field for tags that shows all the tags assigned to an item. Could you create a similar field for grids, that would show all the grids an item is assigned to? At least for me it would be a big timer saver and I would have to activate and deactivate panes a whole lot less.

Haha! I actually forgot how beautifully it works there, even allowing us to click and jump right to any grid. Now I am curious why Pierre has not exposed that for us? Regardless, I want it :-)!

Because no one has asked for it !

(and I'm not sure I'd use it. In which grid an item is shown is very rarely important to me, but as they say, YMMV !)

Was this ever implemented? I have been trying to figure out a way to find items in a Grid that are only shown in the current Grid (except for checking each item, item-by-item and look in the Properties Pane). A field that would show all the grids an item is assigned to would solve this.

This was never implemented due to lack of time. You can however use the Live-Search to achieve the same

Select Search Current Grid

Grid content is dynamic in nature so it is pretty much irrelevant in which grid an item is shown. Also with the usual disclaimer that this information is sometimes a bit outdated)

Seconded. One problem I have with the Properties Pane in this context is that if I want to check the same field value for several items in a grid, I scroll down in the pane to check the value, then click on another item in the grid and the scrollbar in the pane is reset so I have to scroll to the same position a second time and so on.

I agree that the Properties Pane shouldn't shift position when you select a new item. This is an issue that has been fixed before but seems to recur in subsequent updates.

You can keep a Properties Pane field in view by selecting it before moving on to your next grid item. The Properties Pane will still shift position but it'll put your field at the bottom, still in view.

So if you have several fields close together that you want to keep in view, select the bottom one.

Got it now. Issue re-appeared when the Related Item links were added to the Properties pane. I updated v114r with this hotfix.

Haha, the property pane shifting was driving me crazy the night I wrote this. What I found is that if I collapse the All Fields pane the shifting does not occur, but of course at times you need it visible. However if a field is not in a grid I try to do 99% of my field selections though forms now, so most of the time I can keep the all fields pane collapsed. But the other night I making a lot of adjustments to the overall structure in IQ so I kept experiencing the shifting.

The properties pane is working as usual here... that is, when selecting an item, the pane ensures that the last selected field is in view

So... to ensure that the pane does not scroll, simply click on a field that you want to remain visible before changing focus in the grid

It has been like this for a while. That doesn't mean that it can't be improved !

(that is, the pane always scrolls to ensure that the currently selected field remains in view)

But it does scroll even if you select the Properties item first. At least it does for me.

1) Properties field is positioned in the middle of the screen

2) Select the Properties field

3) Now select an item in the grid.

4) Properties pane scrolls down, placing the selected item at or near the bottom of the screen.

Happens every time for me.

It's not that big of a deal but it's something that was brought up a long time ago and fixed. I guess i don't understand why the Properties pane would change position when an action is carried out elsewhere (selecting an item in the grid).

The problems with it are:

1) Many people, I would think, like to have their work area roughly centered on the screen. To have one part of the area (Properties Pane) constantly move your work area to the bottom of the screen is mildly annoying.

2) The refreshing of the pane and moving the view does move fields out of view if you're working with a set of fields adjacent to each other. That's why I said you need to remember to keep selection on the bottom field of the set you're working on.

#1 & 2 unclear to me -- you say "Properties field", do you mean the Properties pane (PP) ?

If so where do you focus in the PP?

#4 makes it sound sound like there is a field selected -- is that what you mean when you say 'selected item' or do you mean the item in the grid?

1) Select any field* in the Properties Pane (either in a form or in the main list at the bottom).

2) Select any grid item (not one currently selected, if there is one).

3) As soon as the grid item is selected, the Properties Pane refreshes and the previously-selected field moves to the bottom of the view. Grid doesn't move.

Happens for me every time but I have a history of non-reproducible issues

*Note: if the selected field is near the top of the list, it can't move down because there are not enough entries above it to fill out the view. Scroll down the list and pick any field farther down, and it happens (for me).

Yes, from what I can see here, the PP will always be scrolled so that the selected field is bottommost in its visible area. Scrolling will always be necessary as, for example, the number of assigned fields displayed towared the top of the PP differs, or, depending on the item text, the 'item' field value may take up one or several lines in the PP.

Maybe something like a 'selected field' or 'favorite fields' tab / section towards the top of the PP when wanting to compared field values for items?
