I have 2 questions about pivot tables:

 

1. When I open a grid as a pivot table, "Enter Parameters" box comes up. Under "Name" column is "Item" field and under "Value" column I am expected to enter a number. How do I determine what this number should be?

 

When I enter "1" under "Value" and click OK, the same box appears as a second time where I enter "1" again, without knowing what it means. I entered "3", which also worked, but I couldn't recognize any difference in the outcome.

 

 

2. I have names under "Item" field of a grid. I open this grid as a pivot table. When I try to add "item" field onto pivot table I get "Cannot pivot or filter binary fields" error message. This "Item" field has auto assignment rules and conditional formats. I wonder what causes the error.
