I'd like to be able to do this:

1) Set content of text field = content of an item
2) Any changes to the referenced item would be displayed in the text field

I know this was discussed before and, I believe, it was not possible to do this right now.

I would find this very useful for the way I work.  It would allow you to display selected info in a grid format that automatically updates when changes are made to the source items.

I'm doing it already by manually copy/pasting but the auto update feature would be helpful.

There may well be reasons this can't be done that I'm not thinking of.

Hi Wayne !

Can you explain in a little more detail what you mean by "content of an item" ?

Content = text in the field cell

1) Subitem contains;  Book synopsis text I've written
2) Synopsis field contains:  Book synopsis text I've written

Synopsis field displays the exact text shown in the designated subitem.  Any changes to the item text will be displayed in the Synopsis field text.

Allows you to display synchronized text in two locations:

1) As a subitem, that travels with its parent and is available no matter what columns are displayed

2) As a column next to the parent field, where it's easily visible as a kind of TLI, and not buried as a subitem with many other subitems

As I said, all this can be done manually.  The feature upgrade would be the automatic synch of content between the two fields.

I think I've had other instances where this would be useful but can't think of them right now.

This may very well violate how the database works.  I'm looking at it strictly from my user standpoint.

Clarification: in the above example, the Synopsis field is associated with a different item (parent) not with the item containing the Synopsis.
