Does anyone else lose work when exiting edit mode?  I happens to me pretty regularly.

1) Enter edit mode
2) Add text
3) Hit return to exit edit mode
4) All the text just added disappears

Just had the worst case yet where I lost not only the current edit, but previous edits amounting to 10-15 minutes of work which I now have to try to recreate from memory.  It's as if it reverted to a previous state from several edits ago.

In this last case, I was working in a text field adding a bulleted list.

Like most of my glitch problems, it cannot be recreated on demand, and I cannot figure out what causes it to happen when it happens.

edit: Could I be inadvertently hitting some shortcut key combination that would explain it?  Don't what that would be.

Hi Wayne,

I've never seen that, but perhaps try using F2 instead of Enter for a while and see if it still happens
Also, please specify if the grid column is using the WYSIWYG editor or not

(the only key that can cancel edit in a grid is the Escape key, unless you've assigned a custom shortcut to the Cancel Edit command)

Sorry, I missed your request.

I use WYSIWYG.

OK,

  1. Can you share item text could / would cause the issue ?
  2. Are these single-line items or multi-line with lots of text ?

There is one recurring circumstance that I do remember.  In some cases, the deletion occurred because I was in edit mode and hit return to exit.  Instead of exiting edit mode, it erases all the text I just created.

That is one specific sequence I remember but there have been other instances not explained by that (I think) but I can't remember details.  I have never figured out a pattern that precedes it other than the exit editing mode sequence.

The only thing I can think of is that I often have misplaced focus when I work.  I will have two panes open side by side.  When I try to switch panes to continue working, and start typing, it enters edit mode in the other pane instead of the item I just selected in the other pane.

Also: if I have a column filter open, if I select the dialogue at the bottom to change the filter term, if I start typing, it enters edit mode in a grid item instead of the filter bar.  This has happened many times and I am very sure that I have selected the filter bar and the cursor is blinking there.  When I start typing, it edits the last grid item I selected instead of the filter bar.  When that happens, I have to close the filter bar and start fresh.  (Maybe filter isn't designed to be edited this way).

For notes I often use multi-line bullet points separated into lines created with shift/return.  These are usually limited to maybe 6-8 lines each within a cell.  Like this:

• Point 1
• Point 2
• Point 3

Another example of lost text that just happened.

1) Select item
2) Press "enter" for edit mode
3) Instead of entering edit mode, it erases all the text in the item
4) Undo fails to recover lost text

Again, this was a multi-line bulleted list created with shift-returns.

I would not say this is a frequent occurrence but I know it has happened several times before.

Hi Wayne,

I'll look into it. If possible, turn off WYSIWYG editing for this grid and see if it happens again. That will help me track the origin of the problem

OK, I will try that.  I'm not sure it happens enough to quickly draw any conclusions, though.
