Has anyone else ever come across this problem? If not, I'll assume it's a problem with my system...

Perhaps not...
 
I was not able to reproduce it, but found that the connection to the database was not closed after reading the settings, so perhaps a scheduled event (maintenance or other) could want to close the database and fails because of that.
 
Let's see if the next version fixes this

Just now when I edited the open / close icons for the other thread, whenever I had the Options dialog open and went into my icon editor to do some work, on coming back to IQ, it had frozen and had to be killed through Task Manager. If you can't reproduce it, though, it's probably caused by something in my PowerPro / Autohotkey scripts...
