 Hi Pierre,
Is the "import" function still in IQ?  When I updated to the new file I can't find it anywhere.  Export is still there though.

Thanks, stay safe.

Hi Larry,

No change to the import command... You mean that you don't find the Import menu under File ?

 Hi Pierre,

Yes, it wasn't even in the menu.  The "Export" was but no "Import".  That was on the "Installation" version of it.  The "portable" version has the "import" in the menu.  This happened on 2 different computers that I use IQ on.

I installed the "installation" version a day or so ago to see if I wouldn't get as many crashes as I was getting with the portable one.  For some reason it was crashing a lot (just closing to desktop) the last few weeks on both of my computers.  It wasn't freezing or anything, it will just silently close when I was doing normal things like clicking "Apply" after changing settings or editing document pane sometimes.

But I'm back to using the portable version so I have the "Import" menu item again.

Thanks Pierre,

Larry

Oh, that is something I must know of, and definitely more important than a missing menu item (which you can add it again using the Customize menu commands)

If you can reproduce the crash(es), please get back to me with the details

I didn't even know I could customize those menu commands.  I went to search for the option and didn't see it, so tried right clicking on the menu items and I found it.  This amazes me how customizable InfoQube is.

Oh, one of the crashes that happens around 6 out of 10 times is whenever I go into "Options" and click "Ok" or "Apply" it crashes to desktop.  Even if I don't change anything.
It actually just happened when I went to look into the options for the menu customization.  I've been going in there a lot the last week tweeking things and when it crashes after I change a setting, I loose the changes.  I have to try changing it again and hope it doesn't crash.  It usually doesn't happen more than twice in a row before it takes.   This happens on two of my systems.

Is there some kind of crash log I can send you after it happens?

Thanks,
Larry

re Crash on Tools > Options ?

That's something I haven't seen, so I'm quite interested in working with you to fix this.

If you start with a fresh portable install, open the Welcome to IQ database and then do a Tools > Options, does it do it ?

Just did a fresh install last night.  Also did a fresh install earlier on my laptop with the most recent from the download page (as of last night and today)

Right now, I just opened IQ, Tools>Options, didn't change any options, clicked "Ok", Crash to desktop.

I started a new database last night with no examples.  Just have a few items in it right now.

I also just opened the Welcome to IQ database, Tools>Options, crash.

I thought it was something to do with my data files at first so started new ones.  The desktop and laptop are different brands and configs and IQ does this the same on both.

Perhaps it has to do with regional settings. What country / date  number format are you using ?

Time Zone - (UTC-0600) Central Time (US & Canada)
Adjust for daylight saving time automatically - On

Country - United States

Regional format - Recommended [English (United States)]

Calendar - Gregorian Calendar

Is this the information you wanted?  There's an attachment snap of the date formats.

 Pierre,

Good morning.  Just FYI,  I just got on the laptop and tried going into options like I did on the Desktop computer last night.

After I start up IQ, Tools>Options (even if I don't change anything), click "Ok".  Closes to Windows desktop.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for these info.
  1. This issue appeared on which IQ version ?
  2. If you just click Cancel, does it crash ?

I'm pretty sure I started getting a lot of crashes during the 0.9.11.5 pre's up to current.  The last month or two I've started trying to Import more of my data into IQ when I started noticing it crashing a lot more on me.  And I upgraded to the newest when available.

I'll try to load 09114s portable to see if that does anything different.  It hasn't always done this so it has to be a version within the last six months I'm guessing.

And yes, I just tried Cancel and it crashed to Windows Desktop.

Thanks,
Larry

09114a portable did it also.  Go into Tools>options, cancel. Crash.

I'm guessing its something to do with my systems or setups since nobody else is having this problem.

Before I even mentioned it in the forum, I checked to see if DropBox was the culprit.  I keep some of my data files in there and found that if I perform certain functions with them (in other programs) that can create errors.  So I created new data files for IQ in the default Documents directory that IQ uses to test it and that's where I've been testing it from.  So it's not an error writing/reading from a syncing DropBox directory, everything's on a local drive.  And it seems to happen to me in Portable or Installation version.

Indeed, no one else has reported this

Try this:
  • In a fresh portable install
  • Start infoqube.exe
  • do File > Close to ensure that no file is loaded
  • do Tools > Options
  • Click Cancel
  • Does it crash ?
I suppose that you did try to restart your PC, if not please try it

Also, do other UIs do the same. Please try Tools > Manage Forms and report back

If it still crashes, perhaps it has to do with programs / tools you use and which start automatically on startup

 I think you found it.

I only have one program starting when Windows does and that's a Password Manager I use.  I disabled it and so far have gone into IQ,  gone into options like before and cancelled out and no crash.  I tried changing some settings and it accepted them without crashing.  I restarted and started IQ a few times and so far after around 20 attempts it hasn't crashed.

FYI in case anyone else uses it and has this problem in the future-

Sticky Password Password Manager

I'll try it on the Desktop later to see if it works, but I'm sure it will.

One thing I noticed that when I was going into Tools>Options "Cancel".  The cursor would change to a swirling circle cursor for a few seconds, like it was accessing the drive.  It doesn't do that now that it's disabled.  I'm guessing Sticky Password identified the fields as possible password fields or something, it didn't show them though. I'll switch to a different manager from now on or see if I can tell it to ignore any of IQ fields.

Thanks Pierre, and sorry for the trouble.
I've already tried it again another 20 times and it's stable now.  No crash with no blue circling cursor after I cancel or Ok.

Sorry again for wasting your time,
Larry

No need to be sorry !!

If you can link to the password manager web page, I'll see if I can work around it to prevent crash

Have a great day

Hi Pierre,

No need to do anything on your end.

I tried going into Sticky Password and set it to ignore InfoQube and that did the trick.

Just in case this ever happens to anyone else.

Sticky Password > Menu> settings > Ignored Apps > Add and browse to InfoQube.exe.

That seems to do the trick.

Thanks again Pierre,
Larry

I suspect that the crash is due to a password type cell in Tools > Options (SMTP password)

In v115a, I changed this to a button, let's see if it fixes it
As a bonus, the dialog can show / hide the actual password text

Cool.  Is there a new download to grab to try it out?

I'll remove IQ from the ignore list in it and give it a shot.

Thanks,
Larry
