Just wondering if you were open to improving the size / quality of icons in IQ if your users vow to do the necessary artwork / conversion required? There seems to be a lot of pixelation going on with the current icon settings. Cheers

I too would help make new enlarged icons.  And my 80% blind wife would love all of us if we did that :-)

Does the underlying architecture allow for something larger?

Hi Left !

3 icon sizes are supported: 16x16, 24x24 and 32x32

Go at it if you wish, I'll integrate it when you're done

The larger sizes would be better for high DPI screens.  On a high DPI screen the pixelation of the 16 x 16 icons becomes very noticable.

I'd be happy to give it a go, but it may take a while. Corona kids are simply everywhere...

Could you please let me know where the icons for the toolbars are stored?

I have ResourceHacker and a good item editor (Greenfish) so I should be able to extract them, I guess.

Also, do you have the source icons (that you used to make the exisiting icons) stored anywhere? (I'm assuming you didn't draw them all by hand...)

Thanks!

Let me know if it would be at all helpful to have icon suggestions.

I don't care for the standard icon sets that have an array of objects (typewriters, hammers, houses).

I like simple shapes and colors so the icons can be quickly identified:  circles, squares, filled arrows flags.

IMHO the sensible first step would be to assemble an inventory / a repository of all icons currently used by IQ. When we have that we could discuss which items might just be transformed to a larger size and which one we would like to replace.

I have now seen the light and found all the icons in the "icons" folder - surprise, surprise!

I will prepare a kind of rendition like yours, ideally with each icon assigned a number, and post it here for discussion.

I can provide you with the tool I use to create icons and link them to IQ

But... when App scaling is set to System Enhanced, don't the icons look clear and sharp already ?
(I have one high dpi PC, a Surface Pro clone and scaling is set to 150%... icons are properly sized and clear)

The icons look very clear and sharp on a high DPI screen, which is why you can clearly and sharply see all the pixels.  Looks like a mosaic.

Posting screenshots showing toolbar icons on my system with 'large icons' setting and my high DPI setting for InfoQube.exe. Icons are very pixelated wherefore I started this thread.

I just played around with the different DPI setting option and none seem to have any kind of anti-aliasing effect - the icons are always equally pixelated.

Correct, using the "large" icons does give pixelized icons

I guess, the smaller icons are too small to your taste (and eyes)

Attached are the icon set in both bmp and XML (base64 encoded I think)... Have fun !

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, the smaller icons are too tiny to use on my screen for almost all practical purposes.

How would I go about trying out enlarged icons in IQ to see what they would look like e.g. on the toolbar? Not possible without you becoming involved, I guess, since I was unable to find the icons anywhere using Resource Hacker or Icon Extractor, which leads me to think they are embedded in IQ's files in some kind of binary format.

I've abandoned this project for the time being as I have no way of trying out modified icons inside InfoQube. Initially I thought I would be able to just replace icons by using Resource Hacker or a similar tool, but apparently IQ doesn't store its icons as visible resources. As it is, I would have to edit a few icons then have to ask Pierre to include them without having seen how they actually look inside IQ, then re-edit, do the another batch, back to Pierre etc. I just don't think that would work very well, so I'm abandoning the idea for now.
