I think that might be confusing, and risks people deleting the item when they only want to delete form values. So I would prefer a clearly separated delete item button. But it's more a nice-to-have, not essential. What I need to do is figure out how to put "Delete Item" on a toolbar at the top. I tried customisation once, and it crashed. If I can reproduce the steps I will post them here.
