Issue 0205 mentions a change of the 'select all' function from Ctrl-A to Alt-A.  However, it still shows as Ctrl-A in menu, and choosing select all from the menu doesn't work.

Alt-A has its own oddness - it only selects the current column rather than all columns.

Cheers!

I believe that's by design - it's a very convenient feature at any rate
But it does make it a challenge to select all items in default setup

I have shortcut to select an item - if a full column is selected and I use that shortcut, then all items are selected (or you can do it vice-versa - select item , then Alt+A)
Means two shortcuts to select all items either way . .

Could the two actions be seperated ? Select full column(s) and Select all items

Select all should select everything.  Maybe Ctrl-Shift-A could do that column or something.  Anyway, those should be defaults and they should be adjustable shortcut keys.

I don't think that select all should select "everything",  when the selection mode is not "full row" -- It would be less convenient/flexible.
It will "select all" anyways if you are in "full row" selection mode.

I'm proposing the following:

While editing a cell in a grid [edited]:
  • Edit>>select all (Ctrl-A) selects all text in the cell
While not editing a cell in a grid [edited]:
  • Edit>>select all (Ctrl-A) selects all items and all columns
Meanwhile, Item>>Select All items (Alt-A) will stay as is: it selects all items but only with the currently selected column(s)

While not editing
Edit>>    ??

Does this mean while in a grid, user could <ctrl>A to select all items in grid w all column values?

The grid has 2 modes: editing and not editing:
  • Editing: you can change the cell content. Cursor keys move inside the cell
  • Not Editing: Cursor keys move from cell to cell, from item to item

>Does this mean while in a grid, user could <ctrl>A to select all items in grid w all column values?
If not editing, yes. If editing, Select All would select the cell content

Makes lots of sense Pierre, sounds good!  In my old refrain though, please make them defaults that are listed in the keyboard shortcut menu in case people want to adjust them.
