Has anyone else ever noticed a perceptible slowness of typing in the Document Pane? I know how subjective these things can be, but it's definitely there, sometimes. Seems to come and go. I notice it just now as I turn from typing in this message box to typing in the Document Pane. A moment's lag between typing and the character appearing.

Yes,  this has been bothering me as well. Same thing with the item editor. Also, quite a few characters cannot be sent to these windows / controls at all with Autohotkey, especially things like delete and cursor keys.

I haven't experienced this and I'm using a run-of-the-mill PC from 4 years ago... It could be settings related. Try these possible solutions:
  1. In Tools > Options > 1.6.4, enter 500 or more for the Menus update delay (ms)
  2. Try the Welcome to IQ database, if it doesn't have the issue, it could be Dropbox / EmailToIQ / Google Sync related
  3. Does the Item Editor exhibit the same problem ?

the Menus update delay is already at 500, I could try increasing it if/when it happens again. However I'm pretty sure it's specific to the Document Pane, not IQ as a whole. I don't use the Item Editor much (that's Ctrl-E right?) - I'll check that out next time it happens.

When this happened again recently I tried out ctrl-E and continued typing in the Item Editor. It was the same experience, such as it is: a kind of staccato effect when you type. A slight lag. If it was there all the time I might be bothered, but as it is it's a pretty small annoyance.

OK...
Do you have any of these enabled in Tools > Options ?
  1. Doc pane auto-save (1.4.3)
  2. EmailToIQ (2.3)
  3. Dropbox sync (2.4.7)
  4. Remote database sync (2.4.8)
  5. Multi-User (2.4.9)
Do you have any Google sync enabled ? Calendars, Tasks...
 
Also, when it lags:
  1. how long does it last ? A few seconds or much longer ?
  2. Does it go away by itself ?
  3. Does going to another item and back fix it ?

Sorry, I meant 'item editor' above, not 'icon editor'.
 
Upping Menus update delay (ms) made a difference on my system, thanks!
 
As for the problems sending keys with Autohotkey, they occur only when in the bottom pane of the item editor (editing HTML content), not when editing the item's text. Hence I conclude that it's a focus issue, Autohotkey sending keys to the wrong control. I'll try to fix it in my script.

There's no Google sync going on. However, I do have "check emails" and "auto save doc pane" enabled.
 
When it happens it doesn't last long. It doesn't bother me too much so I don't keep track of when it goes away. I'll try disabling the above options and see how I get on. Might also try LeftEccoForIQ's approach with increasing the menu delay. I'll report back if I see/don't see a difference.
