1.  View > Image Viewer shows the image when the FileName field refers directly to a .JPG file, but not when it refers to a .LNK file that refers to the .JPG file.

2.  The Image Viewer does not rotate the image when it has EXIF orientation tag indicating how it needs to be rotated.

3.  The image shown in the Image Viewer when I click on another item.  If I View > Image Viewer on another item with a linked image, that image is displayed in a second image viewer.  On the other hand, when I clicked View > Image Viewer on a third item that links to a .LNK file (rather than the .JPG), one of the Image Viewers goes blank (rather than opening up a third Image Viewer window).  When I clicked View > Image on a fourth View > Image Viewer on a fourth item that links to a .LNK file (rather than the .JPG), the other Image Viewer went blank.

Hi Jim,

The image viewer hasn't updated in years, I'm surprise it still partly works !!
I'll add it to the list

 Hi Pierre,

Disregard observation #3 above!

I think I have pretty much figured out how it works now.  If you have one Image Viewer open, if you click on an item that is linked to an image, the image will be displayed in the Image Viewer.  If you click on another item that does is not linked to an image, the image linked from the previously focused item will remain displayed in the image viewer, even if "Locked" is not selected.  (This is OK, but the user has to remember that the image displayed is not linked to the item that now has the focus.)  However if you move to another item that does have a linked image, the image viewer will now display that image (unless the Image Viewer was "Locked" to display the previously displayed image).

If you have two Image Viewers open, they seem to display two most recently displayed linked images.  This makes sense.

It is a neat feature to have multiple image viewers - I don't know if I've seen that in another program.

I just realized a cool trick for items that are linked to a file system FOLDER, i.e. displayed in the document pane.  (more specifically, the folder's path is in the ItemHTMLFile field.)  I can drag files from the document pane to the grid to create new items, linked to those files.  It may be advisable in most cases to drag them to the item that has the link to the folder that contains the files - so that the parent-child relation in the file system is also evident in IQ.  Once the items are in IQ they can of course be assigned any desired field and tag values.

Indeed. It works in the Item Editor too, which is really convenient because you can have many open, can be floating and don't change when the focus is moved to another item

Thanks for the tip Pierre!

Another thing I just noticed about Image Viewer - it seems you can display linked images in Image Viewer or using Grid > Pictures.  But if you have Grid > Pictures selected, the linked image won't display in Image Viewer.  Using an Image Viewer pane/window has the great advantage of being easily resizable.  So offhand I can't think of why I might want to use Grid > Pictures.

Hi Pierre,

If I have a folder with jpg files open in a document pane, and I use arrow keys to browse through the JPG files, the JPGs are displayed in the Image Viewer.

But if I have a folder with jpg files open in an Item Editor, and I use the arrow keys to browse through the JPG files, the JPGs are not displayed in the Image Viewer.
