(A new thread made from Refreshing Two Grids)

When I set up a custom menu for grid switching, and have more than 9 grids open, would it be an easy change to increase the number allowed to more than 9?  (Since Mantis #74 is pretty far out).  Even if it could just show the 17 open grids, I could quickly cursor down to any grid assigned #10 or greater.
This technique better for me than grid keyboard shortcuts - how to assign, since I can't remember which alt key I assigned to which.  Also I really like this for switching back and forth to the calendar, since it takes a lot of real estate in the default configuration.

Comments

All you have to remember is <CTRL><ALT>+O (letter, not #) gives you list of all grids + assigned keyboard shortcuts so essentially all you have to remember is one keyboard shortcut.  Not a comment on your suggestion. Only a suggestion from me.

Maybe this has changed, but here it's rather ctrl-shift-o. Makes the grid menu appear. Type the first letter of your grid (repeatedly if you have several starting with the same name), and press enter. It can serve for grid switching, or grid opening. Nice.

Ctrl-Shift-O is the official shortcut

Thanks Jan for reminding me of the ctrl-shift-o.  I don't like three-key shortcuts, but since I found the view>grids is what's triggered by ctrl-shift-o, I put it up on the menu, and can now either click it, or open it by alt-d, or now I can remember ctrl-shift-O since it's on the menu text.

I see it can be used for selecting a grid, or switching to the grid if it's already open. However, it can't switch to the calendar, and it doesn't show which grids are open.

My custom_menu01:  I can switch to the calendar with it.
It has the number by the open grid (so at least for up to 9, you know how many grids you have open). And you know which grid you have open. And the qty of items is easier to read.

So I'll be using happily using both for now, and try not to have more than 9 grids/calendar open at a time.

If like most of us, you use a single IQ file, the File>>Open Ctrl-O shortcut is certainly then the least used one. You could re-use that one to handle opening grids. Just a thought!

That's a great idea. But where do I find it under customize>keyboard?

That makes practical sense, Pierre. So user would open floating  grid panel via <CTRL>O, select those grids s/he wanted open, then manually close the panel? That would be 'a good thing'.

KeithB, I like your customized menu thingy. Gonna try to figure out how to do it today.

KeithB, just an added note: I've ripped my manage grid toolbar & put it on the bottom of the IQ window
I've ordered the tabs in the order I like to use them & I've numbered them <ALT>1, 2, 3 etc (left to right) so I don't even have to think about it.
Just another approach.

I also like that custom grid-thingy. I'll have to try to get something like that working also, as the Ctrl+Shft+O shortcut isn't working here. When I try to use it IQ loses focus; nothing else opens or anything but I am almost certain that another app has grabbed that shortcut. I'm at the point where it is difficult to use any keyboard shortcuts anymore because there are too many apps vying for them.

Thanks!

FYI, Jim, I changed the shortcut to <CTRL>+O in part because of your comment re: 3 fingered shortcuts & Pierre's point about making better use of that key combo. Works ok here.

I would think the only kind of programs that would compete for keystrokes are global type, i.e. macro progs, global spell checkers, etc. I've controlled a lot of that by turning all those shortcuts off, having one macro program available to id certain keys under certain conditions to avoid conflicts.

Right now  I have only one keystroke conflict w IQ's send e-mail.

right click on main toolbar
click 'customize'
click 'keyboard'
Category = 'View'
scroll to 'Manage Grids'
click in "Press new shortcut key"
<CTRL>+O
Click 'Assign'
InfoQube will inform "This shortcut is currently assigned. Do you want to re-assign this shortcut?
Click 'Yes'
Close

You may need to close, re-open IQ to refresh shortcut

Does that help?

thanks Jan,
we were on different wavelengths there -  I was thinking of the list of grids @ Menu > View > Grids
(as shown in first screenshot in the post by Keith, 6th post or so above)

Ctrl+Shift+O should open this list
