When you select a set of rows and copy (eg ctrl-C) the default is tab delimited.  The most likely thing you're going to do with the data is paste it into a grid, so the XML option should default.  Otherwise the user gets the 'how do you want to paste' requestor when they go ctrl-V, and the paste will not always work seamlessly.

Also that copy requestor should note when you would want each type ie Tab delimited should say (for pasting into other applications) and XML should say (for pasting into grids)

Cheers

The more of this kind of prompt in IQ, the better AFAIC.  Thanks.

Actually, tab delimited USED to work in grids too... I used it often (it was quicker, and more intuitive in a way for non hierarchical copy/paste).

But, evidently, it worked only in the same grid where you copied/pasted, and you needed to not move columns around etc, between the moment when you copied and the moment you pasted your data.

(Pierre : tab-delimited copy paste doesn't work anymore to copy/paste items. Am i the only one ? I think I talked about this a while ago and it's still problematic...)

Has this tab-delimited copy-paste bug (when pasting inside grids, not in other apps) been confirmed ? It still doesn't seem to work here.

Again, I can add this to mantis if needed.

It is working fine if I use option 2: "Paste each line into a separate item, creating items if necessary. I should work for option 1 too. I'll check and fix it

I don't know why this seems to   not   work sometimes. I've had problems pasting many times. Could it be related to some refresh issue or something ?
Anyhow, this seems to be working now... So, good news !

  • The previously used format is now remembered.
  • An extra description line was added.
  • Tab-delimited paste has been fixed
  • Copy / paste was enhanced to support copy of a cell (or group of cells) to a selection of cells. Behaves as in Excel

Sounds fantastic!  I'll be looking forward to that last one!  Does that mean the ctrl-enter fills all cells with the entered value, or is that a separate one?  Should I add that one to mantis if it isn't this one?

No Ctrl-Enter is not included. Yes, you can add it in mantis
