Has anyone experienced a situation wherein IQ decides to jump into auto-edit mode?  This happened to me a couple of times today. Sorry to say I can't replicate it at will but to get out of it, I toggled auto-edit (which was off) on & then off again.

I'll check it (never happened to me). Did you assign a shortcut key to it?

Related to this... Does anyone use Auto-Edit ? (I never do...)

I do... but only since you changed the editing behavior, a while ago.
It used to work this way :
1- pressing F2 put cursor at beginning of cell
2- VS starting to type directly :  input data at the end of current string.

Personally  I prefered that behaviour (could decide whether I wanted to enter data at the beginning of the cell (press F2), or at the end (just start typing)).

But I adapted and started to use autoedit... if I need to add a few characters at the beginning of many cells I have to use auto edit, instead, of F2.

I believe that was changed in connection with an (indirectly related) request that I made - I cant remember the details, but would have no problem if it was changed back to this behaviour

BTW I dont use Auto-Edit

no & nope but would hate to have to <ALT?+<F2> on each new line if I had a group of entries at the beginning of a lot of lines.

How about once you are in edit mode, the down arrow key (currently assigned to new line @ the bottom) moves to next item but remains in edit mode?

And not to confuse things too much, I think the keystrokes surrounding <F2> should be:

<F2> = edit from end (or beginning)
<SHFT><F2> = the opposite of the above
<ALT><F2> = edit notepad (or whatever it's called)

This scheme would be more in line w many other <KEYSTROKE> vs <SHFT><KEYSTROKE> actions

Jan has some interesting  suggestions... (Auto-edit is probably not something that many people will use... BUT, it doesn't mean that no one will ever use it. If I was working on a book or something, I might want that feature.)
