If the item is not shown in any grids, can I still find it and add it to a grid?

what do you know about the item(s)
if you know some of the contents, try a search Ctrl+F - if it finds item, select & click [Go] and it will show in Scratch grid where you can add/modify fields

if you know when it was made you could use the Journal grid
If it was made recently and you're not familiar with the date filter, remove the date filter from the Journal grid (or remove source + date filter from any grid) and it will show all items - in the sortbar (Alt+S to show) sort by itemcreated - it should show up towards the top of the list if created recently.

Might be worth making a book entry for this topic - if there's not one there all ready . .

if you dont have one, simply create a grid, name it 'Journal' (or you can name it whatever you want)
Alt+S will show the sortbar, leave the source field empty (you will have to delete whatever is in there and maybe press refresh. Source will now show (all items) as the grid is showing all your items
As said above, add ItemCreated to the sortbox (right-hand side of bar) and refresh again - items will sort by ItemCreated field/date

Thanks. To make sure - if I want to see all items I should either expand to see all levels or turn off hierarchy. Is this correct?
Take care,
Jay

yes, I forgot about that!
Probably best to turn off Hierarchy and Full Hierarchy - all items will show at top-level then and sort as expected

Turning off Hierarchy alone should do it. No need to deactivate Full hierarchy as this is only effective when hierarchy is turned on.

Also jsolka : just to make sure : remember that you need to be in a grid with no source ("(all item)" appears in the source text box -- press alt-s) for all your items to appear.

... and you can use the DateFilter toolbar to filter the view to a specific date range

All items must appear in at least one grid -- Journal -- which is a compilation of all items in your dB
