Since InfoQube is a windows application, I would like to see the default location for the InfoQube databases (cant recall if they're called InfoBases or InfoQubes) stored under the My Documents folder in a subfolder call "My InfoQubes".

I routinely back up my user created content, and storing user content under My Documents simplifies backup since I only need to backup one directory and all of it's subdirectories and content.

I realize the files can be stored anywhere, but I instinctively went to My Documents to look for the datafiles at first....

Maybe the new file dialog could be modified to indicate if the InfoQube is single-user or multi-user.  If single user, default location is as described above, and for multi-user, the user can browse to find the folder where they want it (typically a fileshare location outside the local machine)....

I store my IQBases in a My InfoQube sub-folder under My documents, which is what you want. Some users do not like the "My ..." folder multiplication, one for each app, so I'm hesitant to build that right in. As IQ uses the default XP dialog for the save as dialog, there is no way to add an option to create this folder. At a minimum, I could propose the My Document folder (IIRC, the default folder is the application folder, which is definitely not a good choice).

As for single-user / multi-user, all IQBases are multi-user enabled (as with most other serious database-based application)

Pierre -

Like you, I created the same subfolder as you did under My Documents.  As you noted, the current default locatio is the application folder, which I agree is not a good default.

Your point about some users not wanting too many subfolders under My Documents is well taken, and I agree that an initial default of My Documents would be a good location.  But I would hope that once I create a subfolder under My Documents and create a new file there, would it know to store the subfolder for the default the next time around?  In other words, would I have to navigate to the subfolder each time?

Thanks for this great application, by the way!!!  I just getting into it now, so you might get some value from a "newbie" perspective of things....

Following Microsoft's way (now obsolete, since Vista) of the "my pictures", "my ...", etc. folders, I've created a folder called My IQBases. Many other apps do the same, btw. So, like these other apps, IQ could effectively create its own folder in the My documents shell folder (my documents is not a "real" folder per se) -- could be called either My IQBases (following XPs scheme), or simply InfoQubeDB or IQBases, etc. (following Vista scheme).

The only convenience / inconvenience I consider for this sort of question is related to backup. As a result I store everything in documents/ my whatever folders. It makes backup schemes -- I use 2: a 4th 1T backup only drive I have on my system + cloud (Mozy) -- a no brainer.
