Sorry, this is really making me crazy.  Is anyone except for me seeing these problems?

Pierre, on my machine I find the following happens quite often

I move from item to item but properties &/.or HTML data doesn't follow

HTML data that is imported as a new item is visible where ever focus was the last time the program was used, i.e. on a totally irrelevant item. However, this is temporary on because if user then focuses on proper item, the proper html data is seen

sometimes when I mouse over (to open) html pane the html data is not visible

same for properties

It's not that the data is not where it should be; it only appears to be out of place.

I think it's a refresh problem

??

Comments

I think that the idea here is to allow the user to edit the added item -- both through the properties and html panes.
If you uncheck the "sync properties pane" option, this won't happen.

The option should be called "sync properties pane and HTML pane".
Another issue is that the option doesn't stick.

Armando, Are you saying I should un-check this option if it is checked & then items, html & properties will be in sync. I don't understand & I don't even know where that option is found. I checked under program options & under grid management & through all the menus. I know I've seen it but I'll be darned if I can find it now.

Hi Jan, maybe I misunderstood what you were saying.
I thought that the problem you were describing was related to the process of adding items to the DB using the "add item" dialog.
Effectively, when one uses the add item window and the "Sync properties pane" option is ON (you can find that option in the add item dialog), the HTML pane and properties pane will show the previously added item. But maybe you're talking about something else... But I believe that what I described is at the root of you perceived problem. Try it.

Hi Armando. Thanks for explaining again.  This still does not capture what I mean. The fault lies in the way I described the situation so I will try again but not today.  I'll do a screen recorder which should help visualize the issue I see.

OK, I can reproduce the problem here.

1- Open the html pane
2- Focus on an item (item 1) with html content
3- Close the html pane
4- Focus on another item (item 2)
5- Open the the html pane : the hmlt conten of the current item (item 2) will appear as it was the same as the previous item (item 1).

Pierre : this is a serious bug as it is very easily possible to
1- completely erase the previous html content of the current item
2- enter content that's not supposed to be there in the first place.
3- etc.

Maybe is that the bug that Tom experienced a while ago. Fortunately, not to many users seem to have lost data.

Jan : could you please change your thread title to something that's a bit more explicit like : "HTML pane not syncing and possible loss of data" ?

EDIT : slightly edited my explanations

Now you have what I mean, Armando.  This also holds true for properties pane & when user copies some html data to IQ & then switches to IQ the user will see the html pane filled with the data but the item focus is not on a new item but on an the item from past usage.  It's really scary.  Thanks so much for following up on this.

Yes, the same thing exactly is reproduceable with the properties pane with the exact same risk of loosing data .

Thank you Pierre. I couldn't tell from Mantis what changes were made in the latest build 08/11; is there a list somewhere?

Hi Pierre,
the panes sync better, but there's still a problem when the content is MHT and the user switches grids : On grid switch, if the previous item had MHT content, the HTML pane doesn't update. Properties pane is fine.

Armando, thanks for staying on the case. It appears to me that your comments carry extra weight, i.e. have more credibility on this forum, which is fine by me. Now that I realize that it'll save me some time & frustration posting as I have been.  I'm not quite sure what I mean by that except that I'm going to think about it.

Jan, when you put the screen capture up for drag and drop, it made all the difference. My initial reply there was way off the mark. In a program as rich as IQ, anomalies are difficult to describe with precision, let alone reproduce from the description. Thanks for catching this one, and for sticking with it.

One picture, etc., something I'm sure you know very well as a TV man.

Like i said, still problems with HTML pane refresh, especially with mht content. Sometimes it refreshes, sometimes it doesn't... Don,t know why. But very annoying.
