Steps to re-create:
  • create a new field, type = date
  • Field name = name_1. Example: Publication Date
  • caption (in grids) = name_2 Example: PubDate
  • caption (in properties) = name_3 Example: PubDate
  • no other special settings
  • refresh and / or close re-open grid / program
Result: user cannot enter date value, i.e. calendar does not appear & entry point becomes 'frozen'

Confirmed, for new entries in Properties. Looks like the calendar control locks up when the caption in Properties differs from the field name. New date entries in a Grid work fine notwithstanding a different caption; and once a date is entered in the grid, it can be updated through Properties regardless of caption. BTW, the multi-word field name has no impact.
