Oh no... HTML pane problems... :(

2 different things happened in the last few days. And they seem to be linked...

1- Several clips from the web (MHT) weren't clipped properly (I was using the firefox clipper). What happens is that the title (item content) is in the database, but nothing in the HTML pane.

digging further I saw that the clip was there, as MHT, in the IQ SNDB folder for MHT files. BUT the itemHTMLFile link is missing

Most of the time when I clip an article, if IQ pops up in my face -- as it always does when I clip to the database -- I alt-tab my way back immediately to firefox. Maybe does that sometimes disrupts the linking process??? no idea.

2- Several items show HTML content that belongs to other items. Once again, they did have MHT content in the past. Digging further, I saw that the original clip was there, as MHT, in the IQ SNDB, BUT the itemHTMLFile link is missing (and the MHT/HTML content has been replaced with content from another item.

What could be happening with these links ?

My problem now is that I don't know how to verify that all items are linked to the right content...  Time consuming stuff...

[edit : clarified syntax]

Comments

Just found another of my HTML clips (using firefox clipper) appearing without HTML content (clipped last night). the Itemxxxx.MHT is there in IQ's folder but somehow not linked to the item.

I'll look into this first thing on monday morning.

Ok, thanks.

it happened again...

an "x" item with html content was selected... The html pane was closed... A few other items were selected... And then all of them got the "x" html content attached to them. I have no idea how and why it happened, nut it happened right before my eyes.

Then I just noticed that several items I worked on last night got their itemID.MHT file deassigned... Several. More than 10. And these are only the one I noticed...

The problem is that I have no idea why that happens. It just happens... So I'm afraid it's going to be hard to reproduce.

Just to confirm... once more : just happened again. items is in the grid, MHT file is in the IQ folder, but there's no link between both...

I didn't do anything differently except that I saw some UI glitches in the IQ window when the add item dialog appeared. Just saying -- it might have absolutely nothing to do with that and mean nothing.

I think I've isolated the issue. I'm thinking of adding a " ! " flag on the status bar when something appears wrong, such as:
  • an HTML or MHT file is in the files folder but not linked to the item
  • an MHT file is large and a copy is still in the database
  • other (suggestions?)
Clicking on the " ! " would show a dialog with information and actions to do.

The repair process will also be updated to test for this issue. I should be releasing a patch early next week

In the meantime, the issue appears to be related to the "sync properties" check mark in the Add item dialog. To be safe, turn this off for now.

Thanks Pierre.
I'd like to diable the "Sync properties" but it always revert back to the enabled state...

Ok. I'm still having this problem, but this time it's not related to the add item window at all.

I was in my reference grid, and I suddenly notice that every single item I move to looses its mht link...

1st screenshot -- see in the properties pane, the link to the HTML file (+  there's a folder Icon in the grid indicating that there's a linked file -- my own touch )

2nd screenshot : after switching from one item to the other : no more link to the MHT file in the properties pane, no more folder icon in the grid + the HTML text has been replaced by an unrelated note from another arbitrary item ... ???? (but you can't see that on the screenshot --  and actually, every single file I focussed on during the last 5 min has this unrelated HTML note attached to it... oups. :-(  )

This happens almost everyday. I don't know how to reproduce it all the time

Although I found a way that might reproduce it sometimes :

1- Focus on an item with HTML content -- NOT MHT.
2- Close all grids except the one with the focussed [edit] HTML [edit]item
3- open HTML pane.... Close HTML pane
4- Close the last grid (no more grids should be opened.)
5- open another grid.
6- Focus on an item with MHT content
7- open HTML pane --> links to MHT files will disappear one after the other and content will be replaced with some random junk... until you hit an item with HTML content and not MHT. then the cycle will stop....

more later, I'm at work

Nope.... I tried the procedure outlined above... Doesn't work now. But it seems to be related to HTML vs MHT. These MHT content are always replaced by some random HTML content (not MHT) -- although the same for several of them -- from another item... and they loose their link to the original MHT file.

And this has nothing to do with add item (see 1st post in the thread)

Ok, this produces some funky results consistently , with a blank DB
It seems like it's not exactly the same bug though (as what I described before), but definitely related.

Follow this procedure carefully (if you miss one detail, it might not work):

1- create 2 grids -- one grid (grid1) must display items with MHT content, the other grid (grid2), items with HTML (no links to MHT files).
2a- open the 2 grids
  b- Open the HTML pane.

3- in grid2 Focus on an item with HTML content (NOT MHT).
4- Close Grid1 (without focussing on any other item -- directly close it without switching to it) but NOT the one with the focussed HTML item (grid2)
5- Close HTML pane
6- Close grid2 (no more grids should be opened.)

7- Now, open grid1 again (the one with Items having MHT content)
8- Focus on an item with MHT content (HTML PANE IS STILL CLOSED)
9- switch to another item and comeback to it (HTML PANE IS STILL CLOSED)

10- Open the HTML pane : no more MHT file link. Deleted. (a warning window should even appear concerning some broken link but this is new and I never saw that before today... that's what I think that I discovered yet another bug). A look at the properties pane confirms this.
11- Switch to another item : MHT link is deleted again, HTML text might be replaced with another one or just blanked (warning window will appear again...)

12- etc. until you meet an item with HTML content and no MHT link. I think.

This works all the time. With a blank DB.

I'm taking an IQ break now...

Is Pierre or anybody else able to reproduce this ?
Thanks.

The saga continues.

Sometimes I even get a grey HTML pane :

This is unrecoverable. MHT links disappear endlessly. And I have to shut down restart the app for things to behave normally. This is serious stuff. From the echoes getting in this thread (n=1) I guess I'm the only one using IQ extensively + combinating MHT and HTML...

Thanks Armando for those crystal-clear steps. I did reproduce it and it is now fixed. The issue was that because the html pane was closed, the content was not loaded. However the save function did not check this.

Version 0.9.24F will be out today
