Been trying to figure out which conditions trigger the Item Pop-up. I can see why it would show itself when we hover the cursor over a truncated single-line Item. But I don't believe we want it to fire when a multi-line wrapped Item is being displayed in its entirety.
Note I guessed wrongly about the Item in the image, but the Pop-up does seem to be triggered by text that wraps close to the right edge of the grid field. At any rate, I'm sure the algorithm isn't as intended; Pop-ups are firing too frequently, for no clear reason.
Update: The Pop-up is definitely triggered by an Item entry that closely approaches the right column edge. It does not ordinarily appear over short, one-line items. However, once you trigger it, it continues to appear on a hover even if the text no longer approaches the right edge (either because you've changed the words or modified the field display width.) That's why I guessed wrongly about whether the item in the image would invoke a Pop-up. It will continue to appear when hovering over the Item until you do an F5 refresh or close the IQdb.
Now consider that a multi-line Item has that many more opportunities to closely approach the edge. For users who typically enter paragraphs in the Item field, those Pop-ups are likely to become a distraction.
