Can this be done via a simple process? It doesn't seem so. I guess one could call it a form of 'hosting' very useful at times.
Am I missing something?

A couple of ways:
  1. Mark the item (item>>Tag item)
  2. open / create a grid that has ItemsTagged as source
  3. If you assign shortcuts to Items>>Tag item and the ItemsTagged grid, it would be as simple as a 2-key press
Another way is:
  1. If editing, do Ctrl-A
  2. Ctrl-C
  3. Ctrl-F
  4. Ctrl-V
  5. Enter
This opens the item in the scratch pad.

I could add a context menu to do just that (open the selected items in the scratch pad)

Thanks Pierre. Adding a context menu command to open selected item in scratch pad would be a convenience IMO.
Then I assume user could change grid name to project name, etc. right?

Here's a use for this which is what brought it to mind:

I have all my writing projects in a single grid (Field: Writing Project = y/n)

I start collecting data on topics of interest
I get an idea for article titled "My Idea" I assign it to 'writing project' field
I create children "Research" & "Version" topics
research data become grandchildren under "Research" topic
drafts become children under "Version" topic

After organizing some of the data as described above, I'd like to right click on "My Idea" & place all of it in a new grid so there's no distraction
Rename Grid to "My Idea"
I should then be able to assign any future clippings to the automated "My Idea" field

As an aside, I have other fields developed for writing projects in a form. The fields are:
DateDue (Date)
GTD_Pndg (boolean & color coded)
GTD_Foloup (boolean & color coded)
GTD_Priority (boolean & color coded)
URL
Item has HTML
Item has URL
Publication Name
Publication (Date)
Article Rejection (boolean)
Article Submitted (date)

Does this make sense to you / anyone?

Jan, have you figured this one out ?
I'm catching up with my inbox (still almost 2 months behind!) - I came across this in it -
also I'm moving a lot of stuff between grids so if you still want help with this, shout!

Thanks for asking, Tom.

I didn't try Pierre's tagging option which makes sense
I can accomplish what i want w hoist altho it's in the main window
i find the copy ./ paste scenario still problematic (it's still buggy / inconsistent / surprising IMHO)
I though my idea made sense but I guess not. Having the ability to rename grid would automatically create a field for that proj. That's what I liked about it.  oh, well....

I've gotten used to changing 'ticked' fields in order to show items in different grids (and maybe remove from current grid if necessary).

I have a form with relevant yes/no fields - most of which have related grids.
e.g. sorting my inbox yesterday, I quickly made a new field ReadMe (and added it to that form). Ticked it for relevant items (unticked inbox).
Then I created a ReadMe grid, opened it, all the relevant items there.
It's actually quite a quick workflow once you get used to it.

Thinking about it now, I'm wondering about the form manager & if there's a reason that cant be actually done within the properties pane (Pierre?) That would save a bit of messing around (which in fairness doesnt have to be done that often)
