Hi,

I'm unable to get InfoQube to run. The program hangs, whenever I try to open a file. I can create a new file and save it. But I cannot open it. I tried quite a number of things already. Among others I uninstalled and reinstalled several times, cleaned my system thoroughly, received a copy of a installer with some changes and installed it.

I still have the same problem. Here's the errorlog.txt file. My system is Windows 2000 Server Professional and FF 3.0.14

Anyone there who can help?

I'm not the expert here - ~~but just to let you know the error log doesnt seem to have attached...~~ it's there now !

Also, what's your OS ?

PS have you tried the portable version?

I did not try the portable version.

But I noticed something I never noticed before: a ldb-file. I never really worked with Access. I work however with some programs that use Access. I never encountered any problems there.

As far as I could find out, this file is usualley created whenever an Access data base is opened. It should be erased after it's been closed. Only if the user has certain priveleges (exactly what they are I can't tell right now) a ldb-filde is not created. Since this is not the case when I open an access database I obviously have those privileges.

Could this possibly cause any problems? It could explain - for my understanding at least - why I can create files but not open them later?

You installed the latest version, right ? If yes, this one is for Pierre... I have no idea why you can't open your DB. You say that the ldb file isn't deleted when you close the program ?

According to the download page, you need to use the version with an installer.

Yes - it was the latest installer version. It was a couple of hours old, when I installed it.

The ldb-file is not deleted, because normally it is not created on my system in the first place I think. Maybe that's why?

Maybe... Let's wait for Pierre's wisdom. It's the first time I here about such a problem.

The first thing I'd recommend is to try the portable version. This will substract all installation issues from the equation.

does that work on Windows Server 2000 ? (it says XP & up on download page)

No, it doesn't. If he can try it on an XP machine, this would help isolate the issue.

At one point, a few Win 2000 reported installation issues, but this is a few years back. Nothing since, so I assumed it was fixed.

Infoqube User Manual:

"17.10 Installation / copying IQ program files
InfoQube (IQ) comes in 2 flavors:

   1. Installable (Win 2000 and up, Mac, Linux in Windows emulation)
   2. Portable (Win XP and up)".

My OS is Windows 2000. I do not have XP and up. And I do not like programs that do not run on Windows 2000. I do not want to buy a new OS even though I'm perfectly satifsfied with win2k

Why not simply try running the portable version? What have you got to lose? A portable application *shouldn't* adversely affect your system if it is incompatible, it simply won't run.

Well, I put my money where my mouth is and tried this on my own Win2k machine (had to get it out of storage and dust it off, but all is well): InfoQube portable won't run at all. The process briefly appears in TaskManager and then disappears...

Correct and stated in numerous places here and on the download page. Portable is for XP and up:

Can you get the installed version to run ?

I found this old thread: Error during installation on Windows2000 SP3. Are you getting the same message about registering ChilkatMHT.dll ?

I haven't tried the installed version - my Win2k machine flaked out on me (wonky Graphics card). If I can resuscitate it I'll give it a go. FWIW, I really only tried the portable install because I glibly advised the OP to "give it a go" and thought I should try as well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that...

Hmm... my Win2k machine sprang back into life and I sprang into action! InfoQube v.0.925 b13 installed no problem (I'm running Win2k Sp-4 BTW) and opened both a new database with the sample data and my own database from my other machine without difficulty. The issue is the calendar - none of the events or tasks from either my own database or from the sample calendar are displayed on the calendar. Everything else looks fine - I opened each tab on the sample database and everything is there, including appointments.

Don't know if this helps or not...

- I was an early user of SQLNotes and then fell by the wayside. InfoQube has certainly matured since then and I'm enjoying playing with it.
