Last week I updated from Pre-Release 13 to 18.  I've now noticed that 18 doesn't seem to "hold" a Strikethrough format because I can apply it but after closing and reopening the file the Strikethrough is MIA.  So I tried loading the Feb 16 "Latest Build" which we are advised to overwrite on the 0.9.25Pre-Rel18 install, thinking this might address the issue, but I can't load it, I continually get the ERROR MESSAGE, "Cannot load language file. Aborting".

My Question is:  What is the trick for loading the "Latest Build" overwrite file, and once accomplished does that address the issue of the disappearing Strikethrough format ???

thanks
Doug

 Doug,
I can't speak to the strikethrough problem but the "Latest Build" zip file only contains the InfoQube.exe file, not the whole system. You have to install the regular PreRel18 then just use that Latest Build to overwrite the InfoQube.exe. You should be able to try it after that.

As John says, copy the latest build file into the InfoQube install folder (i.e. the exe file get's replaced)

will check out strikethrough & see does it work here (it wasnt reported before so I suspect not yet fixed):
Yes,
I can confirm that is a bug - still there in latest build - if it's important to you you could possibly go back to an older build (I see #13 is still on download page...)

Do you know how to add it to Mantis? - if not I'll add it later

Mantis # 903
Formatting full item in grid lost on reopening file (it seems all formating disappears on reopening file)

Doug,
a workaround would be to edit the item, select the content of field & format that (I actually have a shortcut for strikethrough (Ctrl+Shift+S) - dont think it's universal but you could set one up - the formatting options show up under Item in the customise keyboard dialogue
The whole item is not formatted then, just the cell you selected - but it does hold

I can't reproduce that. My formatting stays. I underlined, striked, etc. Everything is still there after reopening the file.

what does Item properties -> Font  says after applying formatting ?

nothing Armando - should it say something under  'font' ?
Yes,
I see it should... e.g.   |I|S|   for italic & strikethrough

If I add the formatting to the ItemFont field (e.g. |B| ) it doesnt stay either - the field is protected I guess?

Also,
I notice the item shows only one type of formatting at a time (is that the same with your file Doug?) i.e. if it's bold & I make it italic, the bold formatting disappears.

thanks everybody, I got the executable file overwritten, for some reason I was thinking double-click and watch it install itself, but no . . . it was simpler than that.

I am working with the Feb 16 overwrite file now and still having the same Strikethrough MIA issue, BUT have discovered that a simple Refresh (F5) brings the "apparently" missing Strikethrough (or other font style formatting for that matter) back again.  So I can live with that.

Amando:  Item Properties > Font displays  |||S|  , both when Strikethrough is MIA and after doing a Refresh (F5).

Tom:  For me, Bold sticks when I apply it to a font already c/w Strikethrough, although when opening the file neither style shows initially, I must do a Refresh (F5) first.  In this case Item Properties > Font displays  |||||S|B|  .  The multiple formatting sticks both when applied to individual word(s) within a mult-word item, and when applied to the entire row, including the Item and all other column data in that Item row.

thanks everybody, your help was MOST appreciated
Doug

unfortunately it's very broken here  :(    btw - I'm glad to hear it's working for you though, Doug !

This is maybe a bigger problem (for me) than it seems - I sometimes sort by item formatting

I see the ItemFont field is editable in new file (also with my current install) - so the problem is with my file. I've tried repair, no help.

File Settings: the 'Item' setting are default
Grid settings: default font is empty (but that doesnt seem to affect this behaviour in a test file)

BTW in a clean install of latest build I get the behaviour Doug reports - do you get same (Armando, anyone?)
I added a note to mantis #903 :-

the 'default' behaviour of latest build seems to be:
on opening a grid, newly applied (since version
# 18?) formatting of an item does not show.
*It show again on refresh*

Unfortunately the bigger problems (formatting doesn't stick at all) seem to be only with my file :(

EDIT - I've discovered a grid (in the 'problem' file) where it appears to be working similar to Doug's description - willkeep an eye on it & compare settings etc

I just saw (briefly) some weird things happening for fonts formatting in the sample DB.

I think it has to do with the formatting code getting mixed up in the font field -- this seems to happen when formatting is changed then re-changed, etc. But I can't confirm it at this point.
[ Edit : I just tried to reproduce some weirdness for 30min and wasn't able too, so I'll take the blame... And cancel that previous statement.]

Tom : Note that there are some settings at the grid level level (Manage grids -> options) that can affect formatting. I never touch these, but I wonder if they could "adversely affect" the per item custom formatting in a grid -- I've had a few options not working properly in the manage grid dialog, so this could be possible.

the font field is not protected. If you click on it, an "arrow" on the right of the entry box indicating a drop down menu appears and a font dialog appears if you click on it.

I dunno could this be related to having had font size defined in the grid settings  (it isnt any more & still have problem)

I see in the Manual file that font size is dictated in the inbox & it's not a problem -
it'll have to wait for another day to check this out more....

Ok. I got some weird behaviour again... This time right after opening the sample DB.

Steps to reproduce :

1- Open a sample DB --> Welcome Grid.

2-  Select these subs (ctrl click on # column)
  • User Manual
  • Getting started Guide
  • Items
then : click on  "Strikethrough"

3- Close IQ

4- Reopen IQ and the File

5- Click on #column of some other "not strikedthrough" item

6- reclick on one of the strikedthrough" item

6- click on Strikethrough ... nothing happens, but properties pane shows that Strikethrough is gone for that item

I was able to reproduce that consistently, 3 times in a row, sample DB.

thanks for new build Pierre !

I still had some problems here (pre-release # 19)
-
I'm pretty sure it's to do with setting the fontsize to a NOT whole number  in Manage Grid >> Options >> Default font
i.e. I had set the font to e.g.  Arial|9.5|

Getting rid of the font-setting didnt help (even after restart of IQ) - but replacing it with a font rounded up or down did.

If I come across any more will report back & I'll test it out in new file when I get time
