If I'm not mistaken, IQ has been in Version 0.9.24 and now Version 0.9.25 pre-release for more than a year... Yes, time flies. :)

Maybe am I mistaken, but I thought V.1 was supposed to happen sometimes this year ? Unless version numbers don't follow any particular system (explaining the beta numbering scheme), V1 now seem unlikely, at least in 2010.

Questions :

1- Is there a road map with some kind of time frame somewhere ? ( Mantis doesn't give any time frame. There were a few post, a while ago -- like : -- link to nonexistent node ID 243 -- -- , but still no time frame for v1.)

2- When is v1 (stable) supposed to be released ?

This is absolutely not to dismiss 1- the enormous amount of work already put in IQ, 2- IQ's power. It's just so that I (or we... but I don't want to speak for others) can make some informed decisions (based on : stability issues + important missing features VS time frame).

Comments ?

Thanks.

Ditto to both of you & especially because as of late, I sense less involvement/activity on the development side. From my POV at least we should have the calendar by now & I'm getting frustrated because I've been here before with several PIMs that left me hi & dry. I'm sure Pierre is sincere about his desire to finish IQ & also all his development plans but sometimes reality has a nasty habit of getting in the way of future plans which I certainly understand. However, none of the above should change the fact that some/many of us wonder where we stand w IQ as we, too, have spent many hours with the program & would be sorry not to see it finished in a reasonable schedule.

Please don't interpret this as piling on. Pierre has accomplished quite a lot, and IQ is very versatile. It is still in beta, and bugs are to be expected. I am not sure what a stable beta release might be. Seems like a contradiction in terms.

However, there are still far too many bugs, quirks, set-backs, and work arounds to give me a reasonable degree of confidence to use IQ for my work. It simply becomes too work intensive. Until now, I have been able to use IQ to evaluate data from my primary repositories - Ultra Recall (which by the way, can be coaxed into outlining with columns), Ecco Pro, Quattro Pro, FileMaker, and occasionally Alpha Five. The latest version now makes this impossible for me as it no longer imports Ecco files correctly, nor can I get a correct import after converting them to csv.

Other well known matters include refreshing (WHY, WHY, WHY?? And how does a user know that something needs to be refreshed or the program re-started?), sluggish performance, overly complicated method of filtering (needs a filter-builder), errors with hierarchies that do not inspire confidence, etc. I have even stated (close your eyes, Jan) that I would be willing to forego the calendar until the rest of the program is sorted out.

I was discouraged before and was tempted to abandon IQ, but it is so promising. It was due to the encouragement of this group that I continued to use IQ, but now I see that others share my original dismay.

Where to now?

Jon

I'm sorry if some of you, IQ users, are feeling discouraged. Be sure that I do my best to move this large project as fast as I can, but there are only 24 hours in a day and this is still a one-man show... and it is not with the $2500 per year of donations (thanks to all donators!) that I'll be able to hire an additional programmer.

As I wrote elsewhere, I'm working on stabilising the current version and will then branch off into two: stable and dev.

Of course, all I wanted to know is if there's a "chronological" plan leading to version 1 -- as it is now, it is hard it is hard to see when stuff will be "ready" or stable. That's it.
I'm super sick at the moment (fever, 39C), so I'll be in bed most of the time.

I should be getting better soon... Hopefully. I did start taking antibiotics last night. But I'm not there yet : fever, etc. isn't gone yet.
(According to the doctor, it's a tonsillitis with something like a bronchitis -- I've got a biannual subscription to those -- thrown into the mix...)

Thanks for all the updates, etc.
It's useful and it shows that IQ is very much alive and ready to take on the upcoming challenges.
