I searched the dB & found several references on this very subject, questions that I, myself, asked.
But after reading the answers, yet again, I'm still not sure the best way to implement what I want to do.
I need very explicit steps.

I have a PC which is where I do most of my work
When I travel I travel w a netbook
I want to 'carry' my IQ w me when I travel.

Should I just copy everything over to a card or something? And if so, what is everything?
Should I install the program on the netbook & the data on the card
Does synch include synching to two IQ databases so only the newer items will be added to the older file (avoiding duplication)

What do you think the most efficient way would be to accomplish my goal?

Thank you.

It depends what you want with you:
  1. Your data
  2. your data and all app settings (you may want different settings for your netbook, due to smaller screen size)
For 1), using DropBox works great (or else a USB drive) and put your IQBase on it. Just ensure that all user code is in System or database (View > VBEditor)
For 2), you must be using the portable version and put everything on the portable drive (IQ can work from a flash drive). You could also put the whole portable version on your DropBox folder

Native Sync is planned but not yet implemented.

Between work, home and travel I run IQ on 4-5 machines so synchronization is a problem I face as well.
The solution that I find works for me, and of course others mileage may vary is:
I have the portable version of IQ installed on all the machines.
For each of the different tasks I use IQ for I have a separate .SNDB and associated files. This is because
(a) I don't trust myself to be able to differentiate different data items correctly into different grids
(b) I'm still learning/evaluating IQ for different tasks, if I give up on it the data is discrete
(c) its easier to manage across machines -  I have an master IQ data directory with a sub-directory for each .sndb etc. file so I need only sync the one(s) I need
(d) I'm lazy
At work the master directory is on a network drive and I can sync (which for now really means copy over) my home files over a VPN network. Again, I only need to copy the appropriate sub-directory that I'm working on.
For travel I again just copy the sub-dirs I need to a USB stick,. I have the .zip for the portable IQ progam also on the stick in case I have to install it on a new machine.
Because of the sub-directory structure none of the individual files are massive which makes the copy process fairly painless.
As Pierre said I could use a service such as DropBox to manage them but this method works fine for me.

I have a more basic question and I apologize if it has already been answered either in the user manual or this forum. I am currently an ECCO Pro user. In addition to working on multiple computers myself, my assistant also makes changes to my calendar and phonebook. During the course of the day, we inefficiently but successfully synchronize our computers with the changes each of us are making. Is there an easy way to sync IQ files between multiple computers? Thanks, Dale
