Sorry for such a noob question.  I'm just starting on a new attempt to learn IQ so I can leave Ecco behind.

I was tinkering with the elements of the IQ UI, and I made the grid selection toolbar, together with the buttons for each grid, disappear.  I've been trying to bring it back, but I haven't been able to figure out how.

I did display the Grid Context toolbar and drag it to the left edge, but that doesn't bring back the grid buttons.

Hi Jim,

Welcome to IQ's forum.

It's good to see new users trying IQ. Keep in mind it still has rough edges as it's beta. But it's stable -- rarely crashes -- and data is safe.

You'll find the answer to your question there : -- link to nonexistent node ID 134 -- . (The CHM version of the manual is downloadable there : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3286283/InfoQubeUserManual.zip )

It's a common question, which means that it's something that should be designed differently, IMHO. It's been discussed in a few other thread also.

Also : 1- you can see the grid list by using the ctrl-shift-o (letter o) shortcut. 2- or by clicking your way through the menus : View -> Grids .

Thanks very much for the replies.  In browsing through the help I had seen that the View / Grids menu could be put on the left edge, but I didn't see how to do that.  Detachable menus are new to me, but it's a neat idea.  Because it looked the same as a toolbar, I sort of expected to find a way to restore it using the right-click menu on the toolbars.  I don't know how many detachable menus there are, but if there are many, perhaps a "Detachable Menus ..." option could appear toolbars context menu.  The little dotted line on the View / Grids menu (for drag and drop) completely escaped my notice!

I don't want to hijack this thread but...

As I was reviewing the content of the past threads on the matter, I think the infamous "grids tabs" should have its own permanent toolbar entry in the toolbar menu (together with the "Standard", "Item context", etc., toolbars). This questions appears way too often.

Opinions ?
If others agree, it should be put in Mantis.

I'll see what I can do, but strickly speaking, this is not a toolbar but a detachable menu, hence the reason it is handled differently.

Thanks, I'm sure it'll make things easier for new users. Jim also had an interesting proposition in his last post.

I think you may have done already what Armando suggested. If you're just missing the icons, I believe the default ones are for "create grid" and for "manage grids". To turn them back on, you will have to right click on the views toolbar, customize, then find those commands, and drag them back to the toolbar.
Look for "New Grid" under all commands under "Commands"
and "Manage Grids"

Armando, I'm leaning towards putting both these issues in Mantis. New users invariably manage to accidentally turn these things off, and that's not a good impression when they can't easily be turned back on. Even if the interface changes, I think this would be a worthwhile nearterm fix. What do you think?

Hi Keith,

I think i probably posted my second post at the same time you did. Yes, I think a mantis issue for the "grids" toolbar being permanently visible in the toolbars menu (visible when one right clicks would be good.

As for the other issue, I'm not sure which one you're referring to exactly.
