however, if I click on item link, the image appears in external viewer

This is ok except I noticed that the images have landed in a temp folder which means it could disappear @ some point if I clean up my HD

Steps taken

From a web source, I dragged / dropped an image onto the grid

Coincidentally after that I closed IQ

When I re-opened IQ & looked at the grid where I dragged the images, they were no longer there

but the link to the images still existed

Questions

1. why did actual image disappear from grid?

2. why did it end up in a temp file?

3. if I wanted to change link property to show in browser, can I do that (if so, how?)

4. I tried #3 & image did not show up in html file but it's possible it wasn't in browser mode or do images not appear in browser?

5. Is it only documents, i.e. pdf, txt, doc, xls, rtf, etc that appear in browser

I'm suprised it supported linking to web images at all !

It seems to rename them, converts them to bmp images, and stores them in the TEMP folder as you say.

I guess it would be better if they were stored in the myfilename.folder or if the link were created using the url of the image (?)

The html pane uses the IE engine so will open any file that IE can open - that's a lot AFAIK & definitely includes images

But I dont know if you can open a file link from the grid in the HTML pane. It's an interesting idea - it would have to 'displace' the current HTML content of the item with the link (temporarily at least).

!! Isn't there a viewer with IQ - I've never used it - yes there is Menu: View >Image Viewer - if you assign a shortcut key to that it'll make it easier to use

There is an issue with TLI not displaying images after a refresh. I'll look into this.

Regarding dropping files, if you select that you want this shown in the HTML pane, then yes, many, many file types can be dropped and viewed in the HTML pane. Right now, it doesn't owrk if you check "Create a Windows shortcut", but I'll look into this issue as well

if Pierre were open to this idea below, I'd add it to Mantis:

I think file should go to myfilename.folder & either be displayed or linked (user choice). Presumably if user is dragging them to grid, user wants to see it in grid vs HTML pane but option provides another way.

Suggestion:

if images get dragged to the grid from a websource:
1) they would be copied (as they are, i.e. not modified) to the "myfilename.folder" and a link to the grid would be created,
OR:
2) a link to the URL for the file would be created,
OR:
3) an option dialogue would give the two above options

Would requesting something comparable for the HTML pane be helpful?

As for the "HTML pane" question : I guess... But I'm not sure since I don't know if it works in the same way. In any case, it can't hurt and Pierre can always delete the issue if it becomes irrelevant (let's say, when he'll implement the new HTML component).

I think it's too complex, I just got bogged down with it

Drag File from web to HTML pane: it would be added to the current HTML content

if an image gets dragged -from a websource- to the HTML pane; that it would be somehow added to the current HTML pane content.

This idea may be far too complex (e.g. problems with if HTML content is saved as MHT, problem with browse mode). When HTML content can save images locally (in the future), this would have to be given as an option.

It could be useful, but let's wait for Pierre's opinion on the issue -- maybe he's got another take on this "feature". We can always add a generic Mantis issue concerning images and the HTML pane... If it's not already in Mantis.

I think other aspects were covered already i.e. I dont think there were any other requests
