The system I am using is to put everything in the Inbox for the moment. I know I can filter by date, i.e. just show me items from the last 7 days, etc. howevver my question requires something different.

Is it possible to move an item from Inbox to another grid? Is this a silly question given IQ's architecture, i.e. am I applying a wrong conceptual thought process to IQ? Or put it another way, am I thinking Zoot or UltraRecall instead of the IQ paradym?

I too use an inbox to catch stuff, then assign it manually later using the technique in Showing item in multiple grids. I haven't written anything up like that for the manual; perhaps I should. I didn't get any feedback from it.

There are probably other ways, but as that works for me, I haven't got around to trying other ways yet.

the important thing to remember if you want to move it from InBox -

You tick the source field(s) for the grid(s) you want to move it to and you untick Inbox field to remove it from Inbox grid

I think that's a good idea, I havent used the inbox much till lately but could do with setting up something like that now

In Lotus Agenda -- from many moons ago -- the user had the facility of creating synonyms & linking those synonyms to certain views so as soon they hit the 'inbox' they would be filtered automatically in the background & moved to the appropriate place. Same is possible in Zoot w 'smart folder' function. I'll have to explore the forms more fully but if I get the gist of your comments + the thread supplied (thx Keith) i can create add source to the property for any item & swithching sources will essentially move the item to that source as in drag / drop while <ctrl> drag / drop creates a -- well, is it a clone or a copy, i.e. if you update one, do they all get updated under the various parents? Thx.

The concept of clone does not exist in IQ. You've got items and they may be displayed or not, depending on the grid source, the parents, etc

Also, unless you explicitely copy/paste the item, you're not making a copy. Check the ItemID. Same ID = same item.

Drag-drop while holding the Ctrl key, adds the item as a child while keeping the current parent. You end up with 1 more parent.

So..... therefore if user updates item it is updated everywhere since it's a single item. Do I have this right?

if you Control+drag-drop an item to under another item what you are doing is giving that item another parent

i.e.

yes, you have it right - it's a single item

(I may have caused confusion in another thread by mentioning ~~copy~~ and ~~clone~~ but now make up for my sins :-)
