I was trying to do quick search -- I searched for a number which was the price in the price column. Tired to do it different ways: with $ without $ with commas and dot without, etc. the search didn't work.

To search for dates and numbers, you can use Advanced Search to search your whole IQBase or the grid filter buttons for a specific grid

How do you use grid filter buttons for a specific grid?

I'm not sure what you mean, but when you hover your mouse over a columns header, a button will appear at the right of the header. Click on that button and a menu will appear. Type what you want in the text box at the bottom of the menu. Use wildcards if you need to (e.g.  : *10*  to search for any number containing (or starting/ending with)  "10"). Of course you need to have that field appear in your grid.
