Currently:
If a field in the properties pane has focus: i.e. select an item in the grid, then go to a field in the P.Pane -
Alt+Tab to another app & back again to IQ -
the properties pane no longer has focus - the item in the grid has focus.

This is a problem if you want to copy some text to paste into the field selected in the p.pane (Alt+Tab ->Copy; Alt+Tab ->Paste) or if you are using a clipboard extender for the same result - in both cases the pasted text goes into whichever field was previously selected in the grid instead of into the field selected in the p.pane.

I got caught out a few times this way in the last while (I'm no typist - I often have to look at the keyboard when I use it). I'm not sure is this problem newly introduced or just that I'm working slightly differently -
it is a problem in pre-releases #25 & #26 (0.9.25) at any rate.

Comments

1- Yes it happens here. It also affects the HTML pane. After Alt Tab, Focus leaves the panes (properties OR HTML). This was this mantis issue

(Slightly different, but similar).

(I think I didn't realise at the time that the properties pane focus was Off.)

And : Yes, I've deleted cell content more than once because of that.

2-  Similar problem affects the column filter tiny text box --  ctrl-V pastes in the grids selected cells, not in the text box. This too can be "dangerous".

I got burned by this one again so I'll bump it by quoting my note to mantis # 207

The problem here is a focus problem [...]

select an item in the grid, then go to a field in the P.Pane -
Alt+Tab to another app & back again to IQ -
the properties pane no longer has focus - the item in the grid has focus.

This is a problem if you want to copy some text to paste into the field selected in the p.pane (Alt+Tab ->Copy; Alt+Tab ->Paste) or if you are using a clipboard extender - in both cases the pasted text goes into whichever field was previously selected in the grid instead of into the field selected in the p.pane.

the official issue for this... Issue :

Update Issue1022 Focus in the properties/HTML panes: should stay there if move away from IQ & back again using Alt-Tab or other means  Bugaveragenew  2010-07-19 14:54

This issue is not specific to IQ, but many MDI apps (Word, Excel, Access, perhaps all) return the focus to the MDI form and not to the pane which had the focus.

- True. I think that with the "paste options" or the other warning/confirmation dialog, this is less of a problem :

Maybe an improvement to the "paste options" dialog : specify to which field will the data be pasted.

- There is at least one situation where the problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with MDIs :

Try pasting in one of the column  filter text box...

Pierre, did you see that last post of mine ? Just checking as this is one seemingly inoffensive bug which could have pretty big consequences (yes, there's always drop box, but...)
