In the Clipper, Win+N, is there a short cut key that clears the Item Text field. I want to add multiple notes with the Clipper. Basically I want to select the existing text in the Item Text field and delete it, so I can enter new text, all from the keyboard. Better yet would be, adds Item Text to grid, then clears the Item Text field for another entry.

it would be great to see the Clipper/New Item dialogue improved to make it more friendly for adding multiple notes.

yes that would be good - save the item and prepare for next -

also, if you actually want to write a bit, an easy save option per shortcut so you dont have to worry about losing work (i.e. save item, continue to write, save again)

I still use Evernote for rambling notes, or trying to compose a draft for a mail or whatever - that's good in a  way, cause it keeps my IQbase tidier, but still...

I lost a big chunk of text at some point... It happened only once but since nothing is saved until you press "Add Item", if something happens, it can be quite annoying. Now... I'm not sure how to integrate that without cluttering the interface. [Edit] : that said, everNote isn't part of my hard drive anymore and I imported everything in IQ a while ago. It's just much easier to search all my data.

I am using the alt+a, but then I have to go in and highlight the saved text, then delete. What would work great would be if IQ did a Select All of the text in the field after I did the alt+a, then I could just hit delete. I would like to avoid highlighting the text manually.

Hi Al, I wasn't speaking about alt-a, which is to add the item. I was speaking of ctrl-a. But there's even better : alt-i (for item). This selects all item test box content. Just start typing over it and that's it. I guess this selection could be done automatically after an "add item" operation though (alt-a). I don't see what would be the problem. + 1 for this. In the mean time alt-a to add your item, alt-i to select the item's content would do what you want.

for a moment there I thought you were saying that this was already the case
+1 for this suggestion

well, alt-i already works. But the item's box content isn't automatically selected after alt-a. You have to press alt-i (which is cool with me, btw)

Thanks Armando. The Alt+i will work fine, thanks. Where is the Alt+i documented I was looking at this link, http://www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php?q=node/145  and didn't see it.

I just tried using the clipper and it is not working (adds url and item text but not the selected text), it seems I read messages that clipper doesn't always work, any input.

I've been having that problem lately with many but not all sites -
I havent tested it properly - it's obviously to do with IQ:
but I'm not sure if it's todo with the site i.e. whether a particular site *never* works, or what it might be

EDIT/ I guess one of us should start a new thread about it - I'm not doing it tonight at any rate :-)

That link is for customisable shortcuts -- link to nonexistent node ID 145 --  (maybe the name should be changed to make that clearer?)

Isnt it a default windows thing that if a letter is underlined, that it will work as a shortcut when used with Alt key ?
(I'm not 100% sure myself - I only started using Alt shortcuts relatively recently)

minor edit to correct confusing spelling mistake :-)

ah OK - I see now - it works, but only after adding the previous item via alt+a.
which of course is completely logical !

- Uncheck the auto-close option This will stick until you recheck it. then, quite simply, when in the item text text box : -ctrl+a, delete I guess it could antoher shortcut instead of these 2 well known ones... But, IMO, you'd only gain a fraction of a second. That is, if you remember the actual shortcut and if the shortcut speed is the actual bottleneck in the note taking process.
