link to up entire grid

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/03/25 08:41
Situation

In grid # I enter a note
Within that note, I select text to create an internal hyperlink
I find & select the target
the target is a parent w children that require all columns to make sense
however IQ now links to parent, children are present but not columns of data that go with them, making this link useless

Is there a setting I'm missing?

TIA

hierarchy - context v full

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/03/25 08:20
Although I understand the difference between context & full hierarchy, I don't currently see its practical use in a grid.

For example, I would assume that if I checked option for FH, I would see CP + parent / grandparent, etc --  not so. At least not here.
CP ok

Don't know when I should use one v the other. Don't know the advantage of using one v other.

TIA

<CTRL>+S

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/03/24 08:01
Pierre, If there is consensus, would you mind terribly changing

strikethough to some key combo to go along w <CTRL>+S, i..e <CTRL><SHFT>
and
institute a forced save with <CTRL>S

<CTRL>S is such a standard for saving that I, for one, find myself striking thru a lot trying to institute a save even tho I know IQ saves when I switch focus.

Thanks for your consideration.

multiple item selection

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/03/23 13:05
In grid, I want to select 5 items that are have no proximity, i.e. are not next to each other.
Were they next to each other I would use <SHFT>+down (or up) to select

But I cannot find the key combo to select multiple items that are not next to each other
Ordinarily I would use <CTRL>+click to make this kind of multiple selection but that doesn't seem to work in IQ.... at least, not for me.

Is there a key combo for this function that I'm missing?

Thank you.

Alternatives to drop-down field for multiple characteristics

Submitted by Tom on 2009/03/22 11:58
working today (taking time off later in week though!)
Also I'm sure this has been discussed before but I really didnt know what to search for.

I want to add various characteristics of items to a new field - I cant add more than one thing from a drop-down list to a field so I'm not sure "how-to"
It doesnt suit having a field for each characteristic (too many probably eventually)

I think the answer would probably be a simple text field
So say I use colours as an example -

Item #1  [blue green]
Item #2  [blue orange]
Item #3  [red green]

and then I can filter for blue in that field
I'll miss being able to sort but it's about time I learned how to filter properly!

or would this be a suitable oppurtunity to start using Wikitags?

form to grid

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/03/21 15:21
Is there a way to create a grid directly from a form besides drag / drop one item at a time from properties?
If not, why not?
If not, can / will it be considered?

I realize the form is for data entry but it seems to me that it could have multiple uses where -- for example -- a project requires its own grid but while the items may differ, the specific data, i.e.columns are required in each grid.

Thanks

flash frame

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/03/21 14:20
When copying data directly to IQ from FF -- i.e. not using <W>+N -- a flash frame of IQ appears over FF as  the data transfer is made. This is new in beta 10 03/21/09
