Link hoisted then lost

Recurrence of two problems:

1) Right-click item>Show in home view

Item sometimes works perfectly: opens in its home grid with outline expanded and item selected.  Other times it shows the item hoisted in its home grid.

2) #1 shouldn't be much of a problem since all you should have to do is unhoist it.  But this doesn't work because of the recurrence of another previous problem:  when the item is unhoisted, the selection is lost and the item is buried in the outline with no obvious way to find it.  Same thing if you select the context parent and unhoist.

easiest way to create child fields and assign them to a parent field?

Submitted by jimspoon on 2019/12/29 15:17
I often create many fields that are associated with each other, like the columns in a spreadsheet.

In addition to putting all the associated fields in a grid, it seems helpful to make them all subfields of a parent field, so that the data can be filled in using the All Fields section of the Properties pane, Tree view.

The only way I've found to create a field is from the Manage Fields dialog, and the new field appears at the bottom of the list of existing fields.  From there I have to drag each new field one at a time to the desired parent field.  When I do so, the field tree collapses, and I have to re-navigate to the desired parent field before I can drag another field from the Manage Fields dialog to that parent field.

Is there any easier way to do this?

I think there used to be a box to fill in the Parent Field ID, which was handy for this purpose.

Unable to expand item selection by sending Ctrl+Leftclick with Autohotkey (Shift+Leftclick works fine)

Submitted by LeftEccoForIQ on 2019/12/29 14:17
Not really a bug but a favour I'd like to ask. I tried different ways of sending Ctrl+left click programmatically without success. The click is sent, but only the item under the mouse is selected rather than being added to the selection. Strangely, Shift+left click works as expected (i.e. continuous items are selected).

Alternatively, if there was a command 'add current item to selection' that could be assigned a keyboard shortcut in IQ, I could use an unmodified left click followed by that shortcut instead of Ctrl-left click.

If it's too much trouble, though, I'm sure I'll survive without it. Thanks.

Paste IQ grid trees copied in XML format as new items in another grid only works for top level items

If the items copied have a parent in the source grid, on refreshing the target grid after pasting, the items re-appear under their parent ("ghosted" / in blue color) from the source grid. They should have been added without their source context, right?

How to display items by two criteria

I've tried a couple of ways to do this with no success, so I'm hoping that if I just describe what I want to do, someone will be able to tell me a good way to go about it.

I would like to sort my database into a tree structure by project, eg
  • membership
    • onboarding
      • Forum use course
        • lesson 1
        • lesson 2
        • etc...
      • Welcome emails
    • retention
      • monthly calls
...etc, for many different projects.

And then I would like to mark certain items as to do in a certain month.

I'd like to be able to view all items by project, or by month, or by the intersection of both.
And I'd like to be able to add new items quickly to both a project and a month from the Inbox.

If you were setting this up from scratch, how would you go about it?

Conditional Formatting Question

Submitted by David_H on 2019/12/27 20:49
To Pierre, I did RTFM :-). To anyone else, please also assist if you know the answer :-).

When a yes/no field I have named Focus is checked in a grid, I want the corresponding Focus item in that grid to have a certain background color. So on the Item field under conditional formatting, I have tried numerous entries. Based on the manual I would think it is supposed to be the first one below:

[Focus]=<>0
The screenshot at the bottom of the page contradicts the manuals written instructions, so I also tried Focus<>0 and also tried
Focus="<>0" and also tried
[Focus]="<>"

The background color is entered correctly and I do have "use" checked. How should I enter this?

Thanks!

More Calendar Issues

Submitted by David_H on 2019/12/27 09:59
In my attempts to rework how my calendars sync and what fields they sycn to I am encountering some issues. Please see the attached screenshots.

I accidentally synced one calendar with the wrong field. So I went in and deleted all of those events. But they are only half gone. They still all show up on the calendar, and as shown in screenshot one, the calendar still contains 236 events. Yet the field they were associated with contains 0 events. How do I get rid of them?

The second screenshot shows that there are still 692 events associated with the field ItemInCalendar. But if I right click on that field in the property pane, and select "show items in scratch grid", not a single item shows up.

How do I find and get rid of all these stragglers?

Text pasted in wrong field

Submitted by WayneK on 2019/12/26 13:07
Another issue that comes and goes but which has cropped up several times over the past few weeks.

1) Copy text on website
2) Select empty item cell in InfoQube
3) Ctrl-v to paste text (using option #2)
4) Instead of pasting in the item column, it pastes it in an adjacent text field.
5) Sometimes the text is pasted all in one adjacent text field, sometimes it's split over several adjacent fields.

Problem can be skirted by entering edit mode and pasting, but then text is pasted as one block with no paragraph breaks.
Turning off clipper programs doesn't fix it.

See attached pdf for screenshots.

When problem appears, it tends to persist for some time then goes away only to re-appear again hours, days, or weeks later.

I'm not expecting a fix beca
