Hi !

The first version of the new Event UI is now completed !!

n.b. Since this is the first version, the new UI is not enabled by default. In the Calendar menu, check "Use New UI" !

Features are:
  1. Drop-down for dates and times
  2. Event and recurrence info on the same form
  3. Supports Minutes, Hours, Days and Weeks for reminder units
  4. Color-coded drop-down for event label
  5. Simplified recurrence settings
  6. Updating a recurring event no longer deletes all exceptions. Most event settings are now also applied to exceptions
  7. For exceptions, option to undo the changes and return it to the series
  8. When modifying an exception, recurrence information is hidden
  9. Prompt on when modifying a recurring event is shown when saving (before was shown before editing)
With respect to the original "Outlook-like" UI, this UI, similar to Google Calendar, greatly reduces the number of clicks and editing steps.

Non repeating event:

Repeating event:

Congratulations Pierre! The new calendar looks very good. I did not use the old style much, but this one will likely get some use. I did not originally think it important to have a calendar, but have since reconsidered.

One thing I noticed right off the bat - open field properties. No fields are listed although they appear in the property pane.

Seems like I get the same event dialog after I installed Version 0.9.26Pre-Rel1?

I discovered that the field properties was not populated because I was investigating whether the drop down choices in the event window of the calendar were editable fields. I have two requests:

1. Please fix the filed properties. I cannot use this version because of this. Yes, I tried repair of the database to no avail.
2. Are the Type and Show As drop downs editable? If not can they be made so?

Thanks.

Jon, If I am in month view, click on an item & click on Tools > Field Properties, the field properties dialog opens, populated with all fields. I'm not sure I understand what you see. Could you list the steps to replicate what you are doing? Thanks.

It does not matter where you are in IQ. Outline, calendar, gantt, etc. There are no fields listed in the Tools|Field Properties window. I sent Pierre a test file and he wrote back that he identified the problem and is fixing it. I see he issued pre-release 3. I assume that contains the fix.

Pierre, new dialog is a leap forward to the long awaited calendar update so -- as one user -- I'm grateful to see this work done.

I now know that user needs to click use new GUI in calendar menu in order to activate it.

I've also noticed a huuuuge lag between doing anything in that GUI and seeing it done.

For example, I added a new appt & it must have take a seconds to see it on the screen
I dragged an event from date 1 to date 2 in the month calendar and it took seconds to see the result.

What other information can I offer you to help with this problem that I see here.
Or is there some test you'd like me to conduct? Happy to do it.

Reset computer w same result.
Switched back to original GUI; same lagginess in graphic / monthly calendar

Is there an option to change from military time to civilian (standard time) time for the time drop down selector? I see the delay in appointment creation/appointment drag and drop also. Thanks for the work Pierre.

Yup ! I've now changed it to use the current Windows OS time format. This can be changed in the control panel. If this is not suitable, I'll add a setting in Options. Please let me know

I'll release pre-rel2 today

The change to civilian time worked fine. Are you going to do anything about showing all times when the time drop down is selected?
thanks

Can you explain ? The End time list starts at the current start time. If the end day is different from the start day, all times are listed.

On the time dropdown I would like to see all of the available time selections, no need to use the slider to see additional times, 12:00 AM to 11:30 PM.

Pierre, While it's not a big deal, I wouldn't mind having a setting in Options to set time format.
The less I have to fuss with Windows the better I like it & there may be good reasons why IQ should be one or the other which may not match Win settings.  I'm thinking sort for starters. Thanks.

  1. Creating a new event: Thanks for reporting. I've now improved it.
  2. Moving an event in month view. True. This is now fixed (BTW, previous version should have the same issue as this hasn't been changed for quite some time...)
I'll issue an update today

I've issued v0.9.26PreRel2 which fixes the few bugs reported.

Pierre, using Pre-Rel2,

Drag / Drop in month view still lagging by 1sec+
Created / Deleting a new item still lagging by 2sec +

Is this better than Pre-Rel1? I don't know because I didn't really measure first time out.

v0.9.26Pre-Rel3 is now available. It includes a fix for an issue with the Field properties pane (as reported by Jon). Not all users were affected.

OK, looking good. Not to be greedy but what's the next step, i.e. what can we look forward to in pre-release 4?

Most likely, stabilizing it and fixing a few non-calendar related bugs. Then onto Google Calendar Sync...

Just thinking out loud here....

Google calendar user can create various calendars, for example I have a financial calendar & an events calendar & would probably create a long term project calendar if I was working on a long-term project.

Google can combine calendars when needed so, for example, would I be able to:
create an IQ calendar item
and ask IQ to sync with a particular calendar or would it be the main Google Calendar?

Alternatively, would the IQ user be able to differentiate IQ items in the Google calendar by color or some other means?

Either would be an improvement but just wondering?

And I'm assuming, in the future, IQ user will be able to add field assignments to an event from new calendar event dialog?

Thanks.

10/10/12 anyone have any thoughts about the above? Pierre? Anyone?

IQ Calendars will work just like it works for iOS vs Google Calendar sync. Transparent sync of events. You choose which calendars sync

The main difference is that IQ allows field values to be added to events, but this you already know !

Yes, the new event UI is a step in a unified item UI, which will be a central UI to view / edit all item properties (including event properties)
