The properties pane has a section named "Shown in Grids" - it shows the grids which contain the currently focused item.

Likewise, The "quick find" window has a column labeled "Shown In" which does the same thing for the items that  were found using the quick find function.

It seems to me that when I click one of these displayed grid names, it should take me to the precise location of the current item or listed item in that particular grid.

But when I do this, IQ takes me to the appropriate grid, but not to the appropriate item.  To find the appropriate item, I have to use a search function once again.

What's up with this?

thanks for any advice.

This is one of the features that's been discussed quite a few times. It needs some polish.

At some point, the "shown in" feature was supposed to be integrated with the "home grid" idea : each item was supposed to "have"  a home grid (even if there's no  such thing -- technically speaking -- in IQ). The home grid's use was to facilitate contextualisation of items. A very important and useful idea as nothing is meaningful without context -- IQ items aren't exceptions to the rule (TLIs without parents and without any "home grid" appear lost, meaningless).

Maybe after the main bugs fixing (the "dangerous for data" ones) and the most important features implementation (like calendar, search and replace, named filters, better integrated sorting...), this could be on the next list. It's important as seeing a bunch of disconnected items without context is a pretty frustrating experience. ;)
