I recently systematically worked through the various hyperlink options for websites and it appears that some aren't working, at least on my system.  I'm using Release 26 on a Windows 7, 64 bit system.

1) Firefox addon fails to create a link (Firefox>click on IQ icon).  It creates an item with descriptive text but it's not a working link (ie text is not underlined as it should be for a link).  Oddly, if you double click on the text it opens a new blank window in Firefox but does not take you to the designated website (it shows the Firefox home page).

2) HTML pane:  links are not clickable.  Link only works by Right click>Open link in browser.  Note also that the "Open link
in Browser" can be confusing.  If the link is to a file, it will be opened by the appropriate program, not the browser.

3) HTML pane: link text cannot be edited.  Right click>hyperlink allows you to change the text but when you close the dialogue the text remains unchanged.

All website hyperlinking functions appeared to be working correctly except as noted above.

1- confirmed [Firefox addon fails to create a link (Firefox>click on IQ icon)]. I have a special script that creates links differently so I never noiced this problem. I'm surprised nobody mentionned it before!

2- Here, this seems to work. Is "Browse mode" enabled ? View>Browse mode

3- Same as #2, but reverse : browse mode was probably enabled by default if your were displaying a web page/MHT file. I don't think you can edit links in MHT/HTML  files without using an external editor (like Word). You can configure IQ to use Word or some other editor in the options.

Thi browse mode thing has often been a source of confusion. Something should probably be done about it. But "what" is the question...

Thanks.

#2 - I understand now but I don't see how to tell which mode you're in.  Shouldn't the menu display a checkbox so you can easily see which mode is active?  I think there may be some other examples of this in the menu system.

#3 - Still doesn't work.  In Browser mode the hyperlink menu item is grayed out so you can't even attempt to edit the link.  in Non-Browser mode you can edit the link text but when you close the dialogue the edit is lost and the original name remains.

Hi Wayne,

#2- Normally, when you're in browse mode, the "browse mode" button  is paler -- depending on the style of your UI I guess . You can always customize the toolbars so that they displays the button somewhere easily visible.

#3- True! you were talking about the  text and not the actual URL!  Confirmed : Changing the URL seems to work here, but not the text.  As a workaround, I had to 1- copy the URL first, 2- erase the text directly (in the pane), 3- retype what I wanted, 4- reinsert the  link -- process is not much longer but not very sexy...

This needs to be fixed. Thanks for reporting.

Hi Wayne,

1) Works as specified in -- link to nonexistent node ID 2182 --
  • InfoQube: Create Link:     Create a link to the current web page in InfoQube (creates an item with the URL field = web page URL)
2) In edit mode, press Ctrl and click on the link to open it. This tip is displayed on the status bar. This is a pretty standard way of doing for editors, such as MS Word.

3) Confirmed. I'll fix it.

1)  I see.  I was expecting it to create an item that was a link.

2) I confirmed that Word indeed works this way, and so does MyInfo and RightNote.  But I quickly checked several other programs (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Onenote, PDF Revu, Swift To-Do) and all of these have links that are directly clickable without requiring "CTRL".  Is there a reason editors need the CTRL keystroke?  It doesn't seem ideal to require the extra keystroke especially since the links look identical to situations where the CTRL keystroke is not required.

It might be working as specified, but it might be a good idea to somewhat make that specification more obvious. I don't think many users will quickly get that a special field contains the URL/link which needs to be accessed through the properties pane, or another column in the grid.
(I've personally modified that feature by adding an auto-assign to create a complete hyperlink in the item field)
