I seem to remember seeing a demo file at one time that had visible columns that could be collapsed and expanded.  I also seem to remember columns being stacked on top of each other.

Do these features still exist?  I have some columns I'd like to be visible so they can be quickly accessed, but prefer they take up very little space on the screen.  I right clicked on columns and also looked on the column menu, but can't spot any obvious commands that would enable me to accomplish these things.

Thanks

Hi David,

Expandable columns is planned. What you've seen is likely to be Multi-level column headers. You'll find the setting in Manage Grids

Thanks Pierre, that's what I was looking for, though now that I've activated it I can't make heads or tails out of how to make it happen.  I've tried right clicking, dragging columns on top of or below each other....can't figure out how to make them stack.

A column will move up when you reduce its width to 15 pixels approximately

Would it be simpler and more intuitive if one had commands for this: Move header up / down ?
(just thinking out loud)

Along these lines, I was considering adding a context menu to forms (in the Properties pane) to swap the grid columns with those of a form.
It would allow a very dynamic display where one could toggle between sets of columns.

The dynamic suggestion from Properties would be great.

Now that I see how to stack the columns, I can see where this would be really useful for check box type columns.  But for text columns where the text becomes unreadable once they are stacked, is there any way to select a stacked column and have it come to the top/forefront so it can be read?

Thanks

I like both suggestions!

(I've always disliked a bit the way the "multiple rows for headers" worked.)

+1 to both suggestions!

Then, to put icing on the cake: why not a single command, something like "name and save view ", which would take a note of the current source bar, filter and sort settings, grid state (e.g. stacked columns) et cetera. This would solicit from the user the name to be associated with the cluster of settings. Hey presto! Named filters! I am also thinking out loud – can't you tell???

Ironically it's only two weeks later and now I can't find anything named "Multi-level column headers" under manage grids.  Has it been moved?  If so where?  If not, is that what it is called under manage grids??

Thanks

This was replaced with a move up / down command.

I've put those commands near the top in the column context menu. It's easier to see there IMO.
BTW, it works well and is better than he previous way (when it depended on the column width)
