I need help.  I'm getting a database error at the lower right: "Attempting to view item xxx but this item is no longer in the IQ database.  Please do a repair or return to a previous version of this IQ base."  Right now it looks like everything I've put into the HTML panes is gone.

I've spent the past 6 hours putting info into IQ.  What should I do next to minimize the risk of data loss?

Thanks, Wayne

Any chance you can send the file over  ?
I doubt there is actual corruption as it is very rare...

What about backups ? Is the information there ?

I didn't try anything until I heard from you.  Should I do the repair sequence?

Follow up:  I posted the question because I didn't know the best course of action when that message comes up.  I couldn't find anything in the help file.  I just closed the file and re-opened and I don't see anything missing.  So as a general rule, I should just ignore it and reboot or should I run the repair?

Make a copy of the file first and then do a repair
What is the backup situation ?

Follow up: Did you see the message more than once ? Closing and re-opening IQ is the first step.
Repair is pretty harmless, so do not hesitate to use it !

I made copies of everything.  I have the usual 4 backups of this particular file.  I'll run the repair now.

Possible explanation: my external drive sometimes momentarily loses its connection.  It doesn't bother my other programs but maybe IQ is unable to re-connect after an interruption.

Yup, that must be it. Running a database from such a drive (which loses connection) is NOT a good idea.

Yeah, I know.  It's also not a good idea to have all your personal files on your internal drives when you have to take the computer to the shop for repairs.  That was why I made the move to external drives in the first place.  I guess I'll have to move them back then pull the internal drives if I have another repair (a pain).

How does that help with having personal files on the internal drives?  The computer is dead (my situation) so you can't move the files off the internal drives and you don't like the idea of letting the people at the shop peruse your personal files.  I keep plenty of files on the internal drives, but none of my personal files for that reason.

Of course, the synch feature is attractive for other reasons.

Ah I see.
I haven't had a computer failure in > 10 years (touch wood) and I guess I would remove the internal drive if I can't fix it myself or be there when they fix it.
I'd be more worried with Google Chrome auto-complete passwords to bank accounts and the like than my information in an obscure software (i.e. IQ) LOL

Yeah, I know.  I wasn't particularly worried about InfoQube files.  I have bank account numbers etc scattered around and it was just easier to segregate all personal files rather than try to worry about which particular files are significant.  Thanks for the responses.  I'll figure something out.
