I'm venturing into links between items for the first time and ran into a problem I haven't been able to resolve with the Help file or forum search.

To create the link, I entered Ctrl-K to bring up the link dialogue.  At the bottom of the dialogue box is this:

This appears to say that I can create a link to another item by dragging that item into the box on the right.  I haven't been able to get that to work.  I cannot select and drag any items.  When I click on an item and hold down the mouse, nothing happens.

This is only for outlook items.

For IQ items, the drag/drop process only works -- if I'm not mistaken -- from the "select items" option in the Hyperlink dialog you took your screenshot from .

I think it woud be much much better if the dialog would allow to drag items/fields from any grid in IQ -- not just from the "select items" dialog. (Often the items I want to link are just there and I need to search for them with the "select items" option, which takes much much longer. So I usually copy the numbers manually from all the grids.)

Another feature I suggested a while ago : alt+drag/drop item(s) to create a hyperlinkt shortcut to that/those items + option to do the same with tagged items.

Armando,

Thanks for your usual helpful reply.  I thought the right box might be for Outlook items only but the left side specifically says you can drag Grid items.  I clicked on "Select items".  That opened a blank grid but I couldn't drag to that either.

I'll work on this some more to see if I can figure out the best way to link...maybe using item ID's

Normally, that blak grid is a search grid. You search for your items in there, then link them to the box/dialog from that grid.

I never do that though; I just look for the item Ids from the properties pane and manually insert them as described in the hyperlink dialog.

Otherwise, yes, as Pierre explains... You can mark your items first (item context menu -- I have the ctrl+t/ctrl+alt+t shortcut to mark items or add items to the marked items list) and use the hyperlink dialog to add all these marked items to your link.

Hi Armando and Wayne,

Yes, improvements and fixes would be good.

For the record, if you first mark your items (assign it a keyboard shortcut), you can link to them with a single click in the hyperlink dialog

HTH !
