The good news is that the interim update Pierre gave me is allowing me to view PDF's outside the InfoQube drive.  Unfortunately, they're being displayed in an unreadable format with all kinds of toolbars taking up almost the entire viewing space.   The PDF itself shows up as tiny text in a narrow column in the middle.   Are these coming from InfoQube?  Is there any way to turn them off?  I can close them, but when I return they're open again.  They don't show when viewing the documents in PDF software.

Weird. I always verify that the post shows up and it did.  Maybe I edited it and forgot to re-post.  I'll re-do it.

In the original post I was first celebrating that I could finally see PDF's in the HTML pane.  Naturally, when I went back to try another one, it won't display.

Anyway, the original question had to do with how the PDF's are displaying.  Mine are showing up (when they shown up) with a huge border of toolbars etc on three sides.  The PDF is a narrow column in the middle with tiny text.  I'm trying to figure out where these obstructing toolbars are coming from and how I can get rid of them. See attachment.

I have Windows 7.  The toolbars appear no matter how the PDF was created, and they don't show up in any of my PDF viewers outside InfoQube.

looking at your screenshot again, it is Adobe Reader that is being used by IE.
1.) Can you check which version you have --  I think this must be the newest version -- DC I think it called.
(My details in previous post -- 11.xx)

2.) does this happen for all PDF's (PDFs can be created to open e.g. with or without bookmarks displayed -- in my experience this not affect IE but worth asking).

You may possibly find something helpful here, although it is re older versions of Adobe Reader and loking at it from a different perspective:

Tom,

I appreciate the ideas.  I do have the latest Reader which I installed solely to try to fix this problem.  I just tried setting Reader, then Acrobat Pro, then PDF Revu as the default program for PDF's.  Same result in InfoQube.

I've tried several dozen PDF's.  They all display with the obscuring toolbars.

Update: it appears to be coming from Adobe Reader.  I'm seeing the same toolbars when I open a PDF in it.  But it's not set as the default reader, so I don't know.

Default reader is not the thing to look for. Not all readers can be embedded inside IE. In fact, I only know of Acrobat Reader having this capability.
So... most likely it is Acrobat reader and the solution is to set it's default display mode

it's definitely Adobe/Acrobat Reader plugin (see word 'Adobe' in Wayne's Screenshot)

@Wayne, ^this^ probably the key:
it should show nothing in IE (apart from PDF content) but if you open Adobe Reader and remove all panels & surplus toolbars from view, this may solve the problem in IE view as well.

So are you getting the same toolbars in your PDF display?  Everyone else is getting the same thing?

I checked options in Adobe Reader.  No way to turn off toolbars.  Adobe support acknowledges they're getting a lot complaints and are looking at changing it.

You don't have to use Adobe Reader in IE, unless that's changed recently.  Revu has a browser plugin for reading PDF's in IE but it didn't work when I tried it (might have to reboot).

Perhaps uninstall it and get an older version...
I'm using 10.1.4

Great suggestion!  I installed 10.1.4 and the toolbars are gone.  I hope this holds up because it's perfect right now.  And using rel 64 I was able to load a PDF from another drive.  Thanks for all your work, Pierre.

Follow up: Firefox absolutely does not like you to use an outdated plugin.  I get a security warning every time I open a PDF in Firefox and I have to manually activate the plug-in each time.  You cannot set it to always activate (that option is grayed out in the plug-in settings).  You can pick "allow and remember" but it applies only to that particular document, so in practice you have to go through the manual activation every time.

Yeah, they want plugins up-to-date for security reasons. Especially Adobe and Flash because they were the most common attack vectors for a good while.
(Have you a reason to not update it?)
EDIT//
Sorry,
that was a silly question in the context of the thread -- but I'm not sure that updating the plugin means upgrading Adobe Reader.
I see I am unable to update nor even use mine -- FF on this machine says the Adobe plugin is blocked, and gives me no option to uninstall or upgrade.

Also they're changing so all extensions will have to be signed as of FF34. Which means that some addons wont work after that time :-(
(Pierre organised this lately for IQ. I cant remember offhand, but think the IQ addon needs to be reinstalled).

I believe the plug-in uses whatever Adobe Reader version you have.  I didn't change the Firefox plug-in.  I just uninstalled the latest version of Adobe Reader and installed the old one.

I figured it out for my machine -- on mine, as said, the FF plugin was completely blocked.
There has been a security update for Adobe X/10,
it is now at version 10.1.16

Open Adobe Reader programme,
menu: Help >Check for updates

^This^ normally only offers updates for the version you are using i.e. it should not suggest upgrading to most recent (Adobe DC).
... the update did require a system restart :-(

That should automatically solve your problems.
(Note I am using Adobe XI / 11 on my laptop without toolbars (as in my screenshot above.)
