1. Do any of you use other tools to clean things up so you insert in IQ?  I just started playing with the Firefox clipper for the first time and I don't find it useful for me in its current state, it seems to just try to clip the entire page as opposed to an article contents.

2. There is an HTML button on the clipper tool.  It doesn't seem to do anything.  I assumed it was for opening an HTML pane so you can see the clipping before importing it?

3. The help documentation shows a check box that I assume is now gone.  I can't remember the exact name but it was something like "close clipping window when done".  That no longer exists?

2) The HTML button should expand the HTML display thus:

as you can see I am able to edit normally, cut paste etc., context menu also works, which, in answer to #1, is enough for my needs.

NOTE: changes made in the clipping dialogue are AFAIK first saved when you click the Add Item button.
Undo works quite well, it was fixed lately (I havent really tested Ctrl+Y)

3) AFAIK that became superfluous as the UI improved

Note there's a problem with the HTML pane in the 67a version - it's working for me with English text, but not with other languages. Apparently some are also having trouble with English.
See:

Text looks fine in the clipping dialogue-box, but is gibberish when viewed in the HTML pane proper.

I use the universal clipper.

- Select what I want to clip
- Ctrl+C
- Alt+Shift+C (the shortcut I assigned to the universal clipper)

Stuff is clipped and copied automatically in the IQ clipper/Add item dialog

Just to note:
the default hotkey is Win+C

And unfortunately I see it is (again) not working correctly here:
if I select text on this forum and use the universal clipper, it opens the clipping dialogue but pastes whatever was previously copied to the clipboard.

I think we need to have a little discussion with Pierre about taking these unauthorized vacations without first clearing them with us.

I replaced it with Alt+Shift+C because Win+C was conflicting with some other Windows shortcut -- Win 8 .e here.
generally speaking, Win+? shortcuts are not a great idea as those tend to be reserved for the OS.

I did not realise that the Ctrl+C step was necessary, which is why (I thought) it wasnt working for me...

I tried both the Universal Clipper and the FF clipper (using FF42 portable) and both work fine. No need to press Ctrl+C before. Simply select and clip

afraid it's the universal clipper is not working here (and hasn't been for a good while - I see I mentioned it above).
EDIT// note that FF clipper is fine !!

Here, it always adds whatever was last copied to the clipboard.
Example:
donation coder thread (see correct title in clipper)

  1. the actual clipping is what I last copied to clipboard.
  2. I dont know why it has multiple clipping info: it appears to add clipping info three [3] times for each attempt I made (and cancelled out of). Note that add clipping info isnt even selected.
  3. The display corrects itself when I resize the box

Thanks for the responses folks.  Pierre, this is what I see if I try to use the Firefox clipper.  This is on Windows 7, with IQ release 66.

Hi David,

Thanks for the video. Uncheck Copy URL content to show the HTML editor

Pierre, maybe I'm missing something, but if I uncheck Copy URL content, all that happens is a blank HTML pane shows up with nothing in it.  And if I then select "add item" the clipping window closes and the web page gets added to the inbox.  How do I see the web page in the HTML area in the clipper??

Thanks

Hi David,

Either you select Copy URL content, which will grab the whole page specified in the URL text box, or else you can enter content directly in the HTML area.

1) Select whatever you want to copy in the web page (all of it if you want)
2) I use the context menu:
click "InfoQube Copy Content"
3) You should then be able to edit whatever it is in the HTML area in the clipper.

Thanks Tom.  I was making the assumption that when you select the FF extension "copy copy content to IQ", that the point of the clippers HTML window was that the page you were on would (automatically) get inserted there.  I didn't realize that window was only for manually copying and pasting into it?  I am now able to get it to work by manually copying on the page and inserting there.

Where do i find "Infoqube copy content"?

I think you read my post too quickly :-)  maybe some context was necessary: read on...
I also think Pierre needs to look at this in terms of choices given to the user, and descriptions used....

Some context for my web clipper usage:
  • I rarely if ever want a full page, so I select the area I want and using the context menu (as described above) I click "Infoqube copy content", and it should open the Web-clipper with the selected text/images in the HTML part of the clipper.
I dont consider that manual copy/paste, but it is one step more complex than how you had imagined it (IIUC). For complete webpages that you wish to edit in the clipper, that step is Ctrl+A to select.

Note:
if you use the buttons -- there are two of them -- I presume they give you a tooltip to describe function (copy content OR create link).

Try this too (the only things that might change are the actual keyb shortcuts):

In v68, I made it a little bit clearer. When Clip URL content is checked, the HTML button is disabled.
