Sorry for the nebulous nature of this question.  I am starting to use the calendar some, in anticipation of Pierre getting calendar sync going again some time this year.  I'm not sure, but I seem to remember that in a past version of IQ I could right click on an item and select something like "create calendar item" and it would pop up a calendar entry, which would be a sub-item under the item, for instance if you wanted to schedule an appointment against a contact in the address book.  Or maybe it was a command from the toolbar?

Obviously I can just create a sub-item and then select "show in calendar", but is there a way to automate it into one step per what I think I remember above?  I tried to add a couple of calendar commands to the right click menu to see what they do, in case one of them would create a sub-item that also pops up an event dialog, but no love.

Thanks

I don't think there was ever such a command. I can add it of course.
What you can do however, is drag-drop an item to the Calendar. That will automatically create an appointment in the Calendar and sub-item under your item.

HTH !

Thank you Pierre, I am sure that is exactly what I was remembering, I just couldn't remember exactly how I got there.  However when I try it now, by opening a vertical tab next to the calendar and dragging an item from it onto the calendar, here is what happens:

1. It creates a sub-item with the prefix "appt for" added automatically.
2. It adds a value to the sub-item of "ItemInCalendar".

But it does not appear to add any date values (i.e. for the date I dropped it on), it does not create a calendar event pop-up for filling in time, and even if I refresh the calendar I don't see it anywhere.  Can you test and tell me if it works for you?  Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

It works here. Try it in a sample file
What is your calendar set to use as a date field ?
(Calendar > New Event uses..."

I see what the issue is - it only works when dragging onto a weekly or daily calendar, I was trying to drag onto a monthly calendar.

Also, how do I change the calendar event dialog from military time?  The calendar itself shows AM/PM.  Please see attached screenshot.  I do NOT have Windows 7 set to military time.  I looked under Tools > Options > Calendar, but don't see any settings there.

I have attached a screenshot.

Thanks

Hi Pierre, calendar is looking good, here are a few other issues and/or bugs I've found:

1. I tried to drag an appointment off the calendar to add it to a parent item in a grid.  If the user tries to do that, it appears it can't be done, at least not when dragging with the left mouse button, but more importantly, the item just disappears completely from the calendar when you attempt to drag it off the calendar - IMO that behavior should not happen.

2. I entered a calendar event where I only entered information in the "where" field.  When I tried to drag that item off the calendar onto a parent item, it not only disappeared from the calendar, but it seems as though it disappeared from the database altogether, at least I could not find it with a search.

3. Military and standard time now seem to be commingled, once you select the time standard time appears, but if you just drag and drop onto the calendar without changing the time, military time appears.  Screenshot attached..

4. Shouldn't the calendar tab have a refresh command like all other tabs?

5. Dragging and dropping onto the month view still does not add an appointment, but I assume that is still on your list.

Thanks

Since reporting # 3 above, now everything just seems to be in military time.  When will we see an option for standard time?  Thanks

Probably best to move to Canada or France, where that's the usual way it is used... LOL

V73 is a big update already, so I'll address this in v74, promised !

Thanks.  Another question, if I am looking at an item in a grid that is also an appointment on the calendar, is there any way to launch the appointment item from it?  As opposed to having to go to the calendar and find it, and then double click on it in the calendar?

Yes, there is:
  • On the date field (in the grid or the properties pane, press F2 twice and in the date dialog, click on the Edit button

Thanks.  And another suggestion, please update the calendar so the items appear in the proper order in the month view.  Right now items later in the day appear at the top.

And another - could we have a "done" field on the calendar pop-up?

Good idea, noted in wish list, perhaps in v74

Calendar Bug - drag a scheduled item (on the calendar) from one day to another and the scheduling is lost and it becomes an "unscheduled" item.

Fixed in v73. Thanks for reporting

For the record, this happens when the time scale is now shown.
