hi,

having problems with Outline Styles and hoping someone can help (but not you Pierre, you're on holiday!)

Basically I've followed the instructions in the manual and created some styles, but they don't show up in the Grid > Outline Styles menu.

I've made a grid called OutlineStyles and put items in it as follows:

So this means I should now have two styles available to me in the menu, right? But the menu doesn't show any styles:

I've tried saving the grid, closing and reopening (the grid and IQ) - no luck. I feel there's something obvious I'm missing, but, maybe because it's obvious, I can't see it...

It's working here -- I dont have any ideas why it isnt for you though . . .
Here's a screenshot -- this is with outline view, but it shows here, as expected, with any type of view:

What happens when you click on "manage styles"?
Do you have another grid named  Styles or Style ?

When I click on Manage Styles, I'm taken to the OutlineStyles grid. So that part is working OK, ie there is a grid that the system recognises as the one where the styles are. No grid called Styles.

I'm using 0.9.78b. Tried this in a few databases, all without success.

Perhaps test  a fresh portable install and report back for your IQBase and a sample one

hi Pierre,

thanks for taking a break from your holiday to answer this...

Tried your suggestion, styles worked perfectly in the sample db in the new portable installation. Then tried existing db's in each installation. Styles now work (ie appear) in either installation - except for this one db where I originally encountered the problem. In that one, styles don't appear regardless of installation. I was sure at first styles weren't showing in any of the dbs's - but actually it is db-specific. What's special about this one db I have no idea. I have done a Repair on it to no effect.

Please, don't worry about this, it would be nice to have it working in this one db but it can wait till you are back! I have a number of backups of the problem db I could work through to see if there's a point where it started to get this problem...

Hi David,

In the problematic IQBase, in Field management dialog, please check the field ID of OutlineStyles, it should be 78. If it isn't, please report the field that has an ID of 78.

hi Pierre,

welcome back!

Interesting - I checked in the problem db for field ID 78, it wasn't OutlineStyles, it was a field called OutlineStyles1. I have no idea how that came about, certainly I did not create it. It's unused, items = 0.

So I guess if I wanted to fix this, I would delete the field OutlineStyles, then rename OutlineStyles1 to OutlineStyles??

The database affected was actually a pretty easy one to recreate, so I went that route. But it's always nice to get a solution.

cheers

That's it... Somehow, you already had a field called OutlineStyles when you upgraded to v78 and it created field 78 with the first valid name, which was OutlineStyles1.

As for the steps, you're spot on
