hi,

I'm getting a frequent "subscript out of range" error message when I copy cells in a grid. Ctrl-Shift-C is Ok - the one that gives you all the options. But Ctrl-C gets you the error. These are cases where all I'm doing is copying/pasting text from one cell to another within the grid. Nothing happens, except you get that message - the copy/paste operation itself works OK.

It also seems that if you have the Item field selected when you do Ctrl-C, you get the "What do you want to copy?" message anyway, so there's no error message in that case. In any other field, Ctrl-C always -> "subscript out of range".

I have also encountered the error message before, however a restart of the program always fixed things for whatever reasons.

Btw from my understanding you get the "What do you want to copy" message NOT when you have just the Item field selected, but when the WHOLE Item is selected (the entire row is highlighted, not only a specific field). There is also a command for this - "Select Item".

I'm definitely getting the "What do you want to copy" box with ctrl-C when just the Item field is selected, not the whole row. I think the idea is it gives you the option of working on the whole row, whether it's selected or not.

But I'm finding all the behaviour I described varies by database. I've just tried this in a different database, and Ctrl-C gets no error message at all. Ctrl-C in the Item field just does a straightforward copy of the Item text, ready to paste into any other cell. Ctrl-shift-C in any cell, Item or otherwise, gives the list of options. In other words, all working as intended I imagine.

Strange for that particular database. Maybe there is somehow another field selected which triggers the Dialog Pop-up (at least two fields selected, one of which being the tree column as Pierre has written in the post below)...

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't use the Ctrl+Shift+C shortcut before, seems like a better way than Select Item + Ctrl+C :)

I can see the logic there, Pierre; but for me, ctrl-sh-C always brings up the extended option, ctrl-C always does basic copying of text. These apply whether one or several fields selected, and whether it's the Tree field or not.

The "subscript out of range" error (not all db's, not all the time) is annoying, but it doesn't prevent the copying and pasting operation, so there is that.

Correct, by design
Humm... please try it again. I've look at the code and if the tree column is selected and at least another is also selected, the dialog will appear

2. Yes, you are correct (of course)! I was taking "more than one" as any arbitrary selection of cells. But if as you say one of those cells is the tree column, Ctrl-C will give the extended option.

Any thoughts on "subscript out of range"? It's annoying but intermittent, and in the database where I was encountering it recently, closing and reopening made it stop doing it.

I could not reproduce it. Is it occurring on the "copy" or the "paste" ?

On the "copy" (ctrl-C); the "paste" (ctrl-V) part is fine.

Right now, of course, none of the three databases I have open is doing it. I will watch to see if there's any pattern to when it starts.

I get "subscript out of range" when I try to copy two adjacent "cells" in a single row. Neither column is a tree column. Version 84.
