Not really sure how I feel about this "feature" but it caused me to doubt my sanity for a little while, so might as well open it for discussion.
I was checking to see how well IQ handled the display of animated GIFs (superb as expected) but, every time I clicked on the [Item #] column, my image viewer would pop up. I expanded that column a bit and discovered that the text portion highlighted as a hyperlink while the rest functioned as the standard Grid Row Selector that I had come to expect. Not really a problem now that I understand what is going on, but a little bit unexpected.
The Items were added via Drag & Drop with the settings shown below. The images were added to the Document with [Add HTML] button.

Oh NO! I was "relying" on that "feature"!
Many of my Images are simply too big to be viewed in a Document Pane much less as Items in the Grid. I want to simply list those Files as Items and then manually scale down the Images in the Document Pane as shown in my previous post. I then add a Field to the Grid to act as a hyperlink to call up my Image Viewer (IrfanView).
As of now, specifying the [Link Storage] as [URL field] has the same desired effect as the [File link fields] option does presently. Is this combination going to continue to display the linked Image in NEITHER the Grid or the Document Pane?
BTW, the [Item #] Text acting as a hyperlink occurs for virtually all the Linked external files that I've tried (HTML, PDF, XLSX). This "feature" is actually growing on me (provides an automatic hyperlink without a rather lengthy Text Field) and wouldn't be a problem if the Grids had a separate Grid Row Selector ">". I usually prefer to select a Grid Row without activating a specific Field cell.
** CORRECTION: Rebooted and the Text as Hyperlink issue has "disappeared" for all file types other than images (.gif, .jpg, .png).

Figures that you would already have an option for that. Should have clued in when the Grid allocated extra row height that required a Grid Refresh to fix.
So, should I expect that Linked image files will function basically the SAME regardless of whether [Link Storage] is set to [File link fields] or [URL field]? Right now, with [Grid] [Show Pictures] set ON and files imported with [Link point] to [Actual file], the Images show up in both the [Item] and [FileFullName] Grid Columns for [Storage] = [File link fields] but only show up in the [URL] Column for [Storage] = [URL field]. Just need to know what you INTEND to have happen so I can figure out how to proceed.
P.S. CORRECTION to my previous CORRECTION: The [Item #] hyperlinks get re-activated by a 2nd click on linked PDFs as well.
Given your description, it seems to make good logical sense to me for the [URL] column to be Textual (not attempt to display a picture for Image files) and to function as a hyperlink. I'm somewhat ambivalent about whether populating [URL] causes the [Item] column to show a picture as I can NOW control that with the [Grid] [Pictures] toggle.
On the one hand, it makes sense to have a "Text Only" import option where you don't have to worry about the [Pictures] setting. On the other hand, it would be nice to have a column that could display a Thumbnail of the linked Image but that would require setting a Max Grid Row Height and to have IQ handle the scaling on the fly. A better option for this kind of feature would be an [ItemThumbnail] field with a Grid [Thumbnail size] setting. I can think of a lot of uses for a controllable Image column.
HTH. Let me know what you decide.
Getting a little closer to figuring out the [Item #] hyperlink scenario for non-image files. If you double-click the [Item #] Text it seems to launch the default Viewer and set the [Item #] text to an active hyperlink (usually).
