Sorry for a trivial question...

In the Done column I select  "Empty" thinking that it would only shows items that are not done (doesn't have a date).
Indeed, the filter at the bottom shows "Isnull(Done)"
However the Done items with a date are still showing..??

Just guessing. Are there unseen "done" subitems under the two items with dates that are shown? If so, note that you have "Filter Items at any levels" checked, and the explanation for that in the help file is

  • Filter Items at any levels: All items that meet the filter will be displayed. In addition, parent items will be shown even if they don't meet the filter

Oops, this can't be the right answer, because the done subitems would be seen, not unseen. Sorry.

But what do you make of the sub-items ? "Not possible per Pierre", "Is done automatically" etc...

Those are not Done, so they are shown. Works as expected then

Depending what you want, you can:

  1. Expand grid
  2. Select all items
  3. Hoist selected
  4. Switch to Flat view
  5. Hide Context parents (or set it to just 1 level)

There are numerous other ways to get the list (I think) you want. (if this doesn't do what you want, explain it in detail and we'll see what can be done)

I prefer to not change the list layout but just change the filtering options so that the Done items, with its subitems, are hidden. Is that not possible?

This grid structure and column filter is working great in Ecco:
Before Filtering on Done Column:
z

After Filtering on Done column:
z
( "This template is designed as an all-purpose template" and its subitem "OK GOT IT!" are gone)

No problem, you just need to set-up something that makes sense (from what I see, it doesn't)

So the filter could be something like: "ToDo is not null and Done is null", or "IsTask and Done is null" (assuming you have a y/n field IsTask)

I don't really use a ToDo or IsTask with this Grid.  I was hoping that I could just use a simple column filter like in Ecco, where it works as I expect/want.

I guess that this is a feature request then, to have an option to have the column filter work "like in Ecco":
Filter Items at any levels regardless of the status of it's subitems.

BTW can the filter options be set per Grid or are they Global across all Grids? In Ecco/EE there are several filter options and they are set per Grid. Currently I am using Native Filter Behaviour:

At this stage, before making feature requests, I would say: Learn how IQ works and see it makes sense. Learn how to work within its framework as it has been well thought out and is logical. Its behavior is predictable. There are always ways to do things.

Comparing IQ to Ecco (as you do) will not get you very far. IQ is different and can be used is more ways than Ecco.

Another example is the recent post w.r.t. alarms and reminders. Yes, it would be nice, but there are other ways and many IQ users don't even use its Calendar (relying on other tools, and that's OK)

If you're looking for an Ecco clone, IQ isn't, and I have no plans to modify it in that direction. I'm of course always open to suggestions but it has to fit in the IQ logic.

Please don't take my Ecco comparisons as critique against IQ. IQ is much more powerful than Ecco!
I am comparing with Ecco since I know well how it works and I am just showing how I use Ecco and the settings that I use to get the results that I want.

In this case, I am a bit lost what settings in IQ to use to filter a column for all items (at any level) while ignoring it's subitems "Done" status (and w/o having to change the Grid structure)?

p.s. Regarding my recent post w.r.t. alarms and reminders, it is important for me to be able to attach alarms to my ToDo's and Calendar items. With a very long ToDo list it is difficult for me to remember the most important things to do w/o an alarm/reminder.

Some IQ users may not use IQ as a task scheduler and they may of course not need alarms/reminders. But it would be great if IQ would have this feature to use the information in IQ for task scheduling. I saw that some other IQ users had asked for it a while back. This feature would really help those user who are interested in using IQ for task scheduling.  Thank you for considering!

  • Understood. I wouldn't say that IQ is more powerful than Ecco. They are from 2 different era, with different objective
  • w.r.t. managing tasks and notifications, have you read Managing Tasks ?
  • re IQ native alarms: Agreed, it is on the list. It's just not on the priority list right now. There are millions of "task manager" type apps.

Personally, I combine:

  1. Show DueDates of items in the Calendar
  2. Use a sorted task list grid, synced to Google Tasks
  3. Tasks are automatically color coded based on numerous parameters using VBScript (See the To-Do's grid in the sample app)
  4. Daily Journal items (1 per day) in the Doc pane

The sorted task list contains conventional tasks (items entered as tasks) plus daily journal items having Doc pane content with actionable in-text tags (such >TODO, >DONE, etc)

My calendar then shows things for today or coming up, I can sort using multiple parameters in the task grid and my mobile gets notifications. Works quite well !

I also have colored coded etc my tasks in Ecco. Some tasks are less important and further down the list, but they may be time-sensitive.  I often use another program or I am on the phone etc. W/o an alarm/reminder that pops up, I would miss many important tasks that needs to be done urgently.

I could use another "task manager" outside of IQ (e.g. Ecco or Outlook). However, that would be difficult to use when my items/tasks are in IQ.
I assume that there is no way to sync IQ items with the Outlook Desktop Calendar to use the Outlook native pop-up reminders?

I am not using Google Tasks. If that is the only way to get IQ reminders, I guess that I will need to try to set that up.
However, I cannot figure out a way to get Pop-up reminders from Google Tasks. (Sending a message to my phone wouldn't work so well for me).

p.s. Your time is limited and I understand that you would like to work on features that are most requested. May I suggest that you set up a Forum topic with a poll so that we could vote on the most important features?
(Also this OT discussion should probably be moved elsewhere..?)

How do I ?
