I believe an incredibly useful feature would be to make a column that would function as a show/hide for the Document pane. The existing ItemHasHTML column might do the job perfectly. Use case:

A user has a ton of notes or clippings (which are contined in doc panes) and may frequently need to look through them to find the one that want. Due to limited screen real estate this requires clicking on an item, then clicking on the HTML pane to reveal it, then repeat and rinse again and again.

Could we just have a column to hover over, that also functions as a show/hide for the doc pane? It would be a game changer if I could just hover move through items and hover over the ItemHasHTML column to show/hide the doc pane for items.

Thank You

Hi David,

Apart from the hover feature, can't you get similar functionality by
  1. Doc pane docked to a side in auto-hide
  2. Whenever you want to see the Doc pane content, press F6 to toggle the display of the pane

Pressing the  F6 key does nothing here, but even if it did, I don't see how that would be different. That requires clicking and F6, clicking and F6. I just want a column I could hover over that would reveal the doc pane (if feasible).

A possible alternative; also keyboard based:

I have customised the shortcuts:
F12 to show Doc Pane
Shift+F12 to close all doc panes (I'm sure these used be default but no longer)

That way I can easily show/hide the pane. Focus is then in the doc pane. So you need to click on your items / in the grid, or F9 to get focus back in grid.

Re F6: it moves focus from grid to Doc pane and back -- it is a very nice one to have in the armoury (can be recovered by resetting shortcuts, or via customising).

OK, got it. Would the actual Doc pane show up with the content of the item you're hovering over ? Or a small pop-up, toottip style with excerpts ?

I've been thinking about this... so a pop-up floating window would open when you hover over the ItemHasHTML column (and holding Ctrl for example) ?
