Hi IQ Users !

Have any of you been using / following Notion ?

I have, from a distance. My daughter has been using it exclusively for her course notes. Timing was great for her as (1) we're in a pandemic so she was at home and (2) Notion now has a free tier with unlimited items (blocks).

That said, I haven't used it myself, being very happy with what IQ provides...

Notion has just released their first public API (beta) which means that IQ could sync to it.

Any thoughts on how useful this would be, what content would sync and how, etc ?

I never got deeply into Notion because of the earlier block limit.  As a notetaking program, I found it to be slow for editing and adding new text - this was two years ago so may no longer be true.

Its benefit as a sync to IQ would be if it could sync fields from IQ to page properties in Notion. I can imagine syncing an individual grid (as a page) which shows up as a table in Notion, with the items as rows.  But it sounds complicated...

In general, I would be happy to have some kind of mobile sync for (selected data in) IQ, since not being able to access data on the go limits what I put into IQ.  Not too bothered if it would be Notion or Evernote or another solution, as long as it was reliable.

As an update to my earlier comment, I have been making more use of Notion lately and would be interested in an IQ to Notion sync. Notion doesn't work offline, whereas InfoQube does. And a Notion database page would be a great way to view and update an IQ grid on mobile. I believe the Notion API is now out of beta, but the technicalities of how easy it is to have a two-way sync are beyond my understanding.

I no longer use Evernote, so that sync is no longer useful for me.

Hi Cyganet,

Indeed, I also saw the API announcement. Initially it was rather limited, but no longer, so it could be a viable online solution.

Notion is still lacking mobile apps and the mobile web version "works" (but not really optimal)

Anyone else interested in a link between IQ and Notion ? 😮

Notion does have mobile apps, by the way. (I have it on my iPhone and I see it on the Google Play Store.)

For my purposes, the key thing missing in Notion and similar database apps is a good way of dealing with item hierarchies. The only solution I've found is Zenkit, which has a functional hierarchy view, with parent/child relationships stored for each item. They do have an API, but I don't know whether it allows for interacting with item hierarchies.

(Aside from database apps, it would also be cool to have a way to link IQ to an outliner app like Dynalist, Workflowy, RemNote, etc. Some of them have APIs, but I haven't I haven't looked in-depth.)

(Also, by the way, I think someone should come up with a simple standard for tab-delimited outlines with column-based metadata...)

I use the Notion mobile app on Android, and it generally works fine. In terms of item hierarchy, I can imagine a simple IQ outline shown as a Notion outline of indented blocks. But AFAICT, Notion cannot handle both hierarchy and item fields at the same time.

Good point. Notion's "Toggle list" feature functions as a basic outliner, but I still don't quite understand the relationship between items in Toggle lists and items in tables. It seems that each item in a table is essentially a page, and each page can have a Toggle list. But I might be confused. At any rate, if the API allows for working with simple hierarchical lists, that would be great.
